Help, Lightning surges, cuts out at 80 mph
when i gun it from a stand still, the engine will do fine until about 80 mph, when it will start to surge and slow down. it seems to cutout, anyone know what the problem might be? it does it in drive and overdrive. it only does it from a standstill and when its totally floored, it doesnt do it when im cruising on the freeway. thanks

If the problem stops when you let up on gas pedal, it may be one of fuel delivery. There is much less demand for fuel at steady speeds. Too little info for good diagnosis. Fuel filter may be plugging, particularly if you have been running racing gas or fuel additives.
the truck is a 99 Lightning, the mods are a psp filter and a psp dual chip. i just put the chip in, i thought it might stop the problem, but it didnt. i havent run any race gas, just 92 octane. thanks

Yeah, I agree....try replacing that fuel filter. I had that problem with my other truck, it would bog down when gas was applied.

Definitly either the fuel filter or the fuel pumps have seperated in the tank (a known issue, especially on early build trucks).
The fuel filter will reqire a tool to remove from the lines, you can get the proper tool at any auto parts store for a few bucks. If it's the fuel pumps, they will have to be replaced by the dealer. From the sound of it, I would think the filter is the culprit here. Mine did the same thing you describe and it was the filter.

I had the same problem...a stuttering around 80 mph. I told them to check the tranny, etc. I was also going to get a fuel filter replacement at the time. I went in to take the guy for a ride to show him what it was doing and it wouldn't do it. He told me they had already changed the fuel filter
BINGO!

BINGO!
