Congrats, You will love it. I bought a TRV 8 awhile ago and the digital quality is awesome. You now just have to figure a way to write it off on your taxes!

Here's what you need:

It's a waterproof "lipstick" camera. I had an extra chip lying around and put it in the picture so you could get an idea of the camera's actual size. It costs about $150 (do an internet search for 230crw). I've mounted mine on the front bumper, rear bumper, and top of cab. Each view gives a different perspective.

Hooking it up is easy.

Plug the yellow female connector from the camera into the camcorder using a RCA video cable. Plug the other jack into a 12 volt DC power source. You can use 4 AA batteries in a kit that Radio shack sells for 8 bucks, or rig up a 12 volt lantern battery.

The sound can be captured by using one or two microphones mounted in the frame and/or engine (or cab/helmet/shirt collar). The only ones that work must be sensitive and have line boosters. The audio gets plugged into the audio in next to the video in on the camera.

Secure the camera to the center or passenger seatbelt using a couple carabiners and runners (rock climbing gear) so it stays put just in case.

If you open the camera's small video display and switch it to VTR, the "bumpercam" video comes up on the screen. When you're ready to record, turn on the mics and press record.

The quality is incredible. I've recorded many items this way but since my camera is analog, I loose quality when doing the analog to DV conversion (internet video stuff). Yet, most people still think the final internet quality is great. Yours will be much better.

Sample lightning videos are in the following directory.
Internet Movie Directory

The video from Buttonwillow isn't too great 'cause a bug hit the camera. You can see a faint wing fluttering in front of the camera in a couple of the videos. The blood is still there in the photo above.

Start posting some movies of your truck. Just start it up and let it rumble in the driveway, at least. That'll work for me.

brooks,

excellent camera!! In your pics above, the nubile female seems a bit young for a "sugar mama" or is she the lucky co-pilot/navigator/cameraperson?

Hello Brooks,

Just thought that I would volunteer Nan...slightly older that the pictured "helper", but the Best Navigator in the world....and she doesn't mind going FAST. The only problem she has ever voiced, is that the speed is so high (she has been with me @ over 162 mph on the autobahn-in trafic ), that it is a problem keeping up on the map!

Cheers,

...Dwight...

Thumbs up

Glad to see that they have In 'N Out Burger in N.E LA, Brooks. Wonder what Paul Prudhomme would have to say about it, though.
