Alarm systems
Does anyone have the dealer installed alarm system? I know our trucks come with the "passive" alarm. My dealer is trying to sell me one they intall. Its got numerous bells and whistles (shock sensors etc). They want $490 for it installed.
Any comments good or bad appreciated.

If I remeber right, the dealer system is made by DEI? Its not bad...
I put a Viper 550ES in mine, interfaces with the truck system. $600 installed. has shock, radar, etc...and a pair of 134db air horns to boot.

go to a car stereo place, you can get better for cheaper.
A while back I got an Exaclibor Gold put on my old ranger, very nice just above basic alarm, got it with powerdoor actuators for $300 including install.
On thing I suggest, get 2 sirens, have one placed regulary in the engine compartment where they always place it. Have the second placed under the passenger dash. It will suck very much when you sit in the truck and the alarm goes off. But it will suck also for anyone that breaks in and tries to either take stereo stuff or just steal your truck.

Most dealers use DEI brand alarms, and they work well, and you can have lots of options added to them. Even though it will cost you more to have the same alarm installed by the dealer, do it. This way the dealer is liable to cover and problems from the alarm. We go through this all the time at my dealer. If you have it insalled elsewhere, you're on your own. And trust me, problems are VERY common with aftermarket alarms on these new trucks
