Well then.
Isn't this a sad state of affairs.
While I understand completely the desires of the Webmaster here, and as such his minions, to maximize their income (or minimize loss, as the case may be) from this site, and these forums, I am baffled.
Closing threads *****-nilly (which IS what's happening here) based on quick scans of postings, is foolish and shortsighted. Sometimes, you just have to allow guests to your site to pontificate (or waste bandwidth.) This allows the potential Cash Cows (I of course jest about the size and contributions from your Vendor Partners) to grow to a point when it is appropriate for you to ask, then ask again, THEN demand that they provide you with some level of support. Note that the "THEN" is in caps, not the "demand".
I enjoyed this parting comment from the Webmaster: " Put your personal passions aside and this is not rocket science to figure out "
I offer the opinion that without " personal passions " there would be no F150Online, no Lightning forum, and for that matter, no SVT. Oh, yeah, and certainly no closed threads.
Without the passion exhibited by many contributors here, there wouldn't be anything worth reading, and certainly not anything worth buying.
I think perhaps you might want to work a little more carefully at crafting, and enforcing your Vendor policies. Advertising takes many forms, and a potential ad wrapped in an informative posting from a fellow enthusiast should be treated differently from a straight "Buy this" posting.
As well, this is a hobby driven cottage industry; these are not representatives of Mr. Gasket we’re dealing with here, they’re just folks who found out how to do something that others want to buy. I’d hate to see the books for some of these "businesses"... I can just imagine the loss. While the profitability of companies is not your concern, the maintenance of your community is. Beware the power you have here, and the foul mouthed contributors this forum has begun to attract.
My favorite quote from the "Silver_2000_
!" is this:
"I dont read every word of every thread, I do the best I can with the time I have" Let me suggest that if you do not have time to do a job well, that you not undertake the task at all. Ill will goes as far as you will let it, and you're really breeding it here. Perhaps even just a little time spent on spelling would be a good idea.
Oh, yeah; "cluttering the Lightning forum" is what all of this is about. All of it. Every word. To paraphrase the Webmaster, this ain't rocket science.
Interesting that the cool community I once followed here has become so caustic.
Perhaps it's the weather.
Fire at will.

JHCain (and others),
You can pontificate all you like as to my intentions in operating this site, as well as the actions of a very helpful and intelligent volunteer moderator, but unless you walk a mile in our shoes, you will have NO clue as to what goes on behind the scenes.
If anyone has a problem with how these forums are run, CONTACT US OFFLINE. We are not perfect and we do make mistakes. Posting messages that publicly denounce our actions and attack us personally is a surefire way of starting more problems that are not needed here.
As a sidenote to this situation, are you aware that the vendor in the thread in question has been contacted before about our policies? Are you probably also aware that his profit from the users of this site likely EXCEEDS the profit that I have made from this site in 2001 and has given nothing back?
Your actions of publicly denouncing me and Doug in the way we handle this site only serve to make the impact of your words meaningless in my eyes. Try contacting us offline before posting these threads that only serve to stoke a TINY, insignificant flame. In fact, since typing this reply, I have received more SUPPORTIVE emails of Doug's action in closing the thread than complaints.
