Exclamation See something new every day

Today I am tooling along with the family in my wife's car and come up behind something I have never seen before. On the back bumper of this car was "Thunderbird SVT" in big letters--actually it was the length of the whole bumper. It was an earlier 90's model T-bird all right. They had even put "SVT" badges on the sides and trunk. I guess people will put badges on anything. Why am I never in my "SVT" when I see stuff like this? I hope he at least had a V8 in it.

I was walking out of McDonald's after lunch when I see a mid-90's Ford Ranger come by. Regular cab, styleside, purple with dark tint. It had clear corners and altezza's, the whole ricer bit. Had the Lightning badges on the front and SVT F-150 on the tailgate. I ran to my truck and whirled out of the parking lot to try and find him. Missed him. If I had caught him I was going to sit next to him, rev the engine, give him the finger and leave.

SVT, SVE, or was it SVO that had made a few Thunderbirds that were hopped up, yet they never came to the lots.

wrightlightning,

BfB is correct.

There were 3 SVT Thunderbirds built as prototypes for the 98 model year. Ford dropped the axe on the whole MN-12 platform in 97, so they were never produced.

According to the info on the TCCoA.com site (Thunderbird & Cougar Club of America) two of the three were crushed and the only remaining survivor belongs to John Coletti in Dearborn. I have seen a picture of it and it was a burgundy color.

There are a few of us (myself included) who are trying to build some clones that would do honor to the SVT unit.

Mine is a getting a DOHC Mark VIII LSC motor w/an intercooled Vortech SQ trim, Cobra intake, radiator, & forged crank, 9:1 forged JE pistons, Manley billet forged h-beam rods, polished and port matched heads, & ARP fasteners top & bottom. I have also built the tranny (4R70W, the original) to take 700 hp, installed a one piece aluminum drive shaft, installed SC rear end & half shafts w/a 3.55 gear, and upgraded the brakes to 4 wheel disc.

It won't be an SVT product, and it won't have any SVT badges on it, but it is my tribute to what should have been and, now, will never be.

Well, I do not think this was the only prototype left. This was an early 90's T bird. And Wyldman, I think what you are trying to do would more than honor the SVT name.

Could it have been a SuperCoupe?
