I advise against buying a radar detector, I have one and I haven't used it in almost 10 months. They only work if there are other cars ahead of you for the cops radar to hit and if there are cars ahead I tend to just stick with the flow and try to stay in the middle so I'm not the first one tagged and I'm not the easiest to pick-off either. When there's no one else around I found it only good for getting the cop to right me up for any and everything he could think of. When a cop pulls you over it dose not matter how polite and nice you are if they see it or saw it before you put it away your fried! Also radar detectors only work if the cop is sitting there with his radar on constant, if he is sitting there and sees you coming up on him faster than normal he can tag you in one shot and you'll know it cause that radar detector will go crazy, they caught me like that once at night. I still have it in the bottom of my center console ti's been there for 10 months and it will probable stay there until I sell my truck or remember to get rid of it. When I used it I got enough hefty tickets that I had 13 points in 1 year and had to have a restricted license for 6 months. I have not used it in the last 10 months and and have not received a ticket yet and now have my regular license back.
Bottom line if I went back to before I bought it knowing what I know now I wouldn't get it again. Put the money into a CB I've heard that is more effctive. Just my opinion.

i have an escort 8500 like it better then the val 1 i had, due to less false radar returns.
the main reason i have a detector is to keep myself honest--- must admit i daydream a little when driving distance and tend to get a heavy foot. the signal brings me back to reality. lol
