Post NASCAR/ENDURO RACING

Has anybody ever raced in one of these? WEll if you do im sure you know it's a cross between, oval racing, demolition derby, and road warrior all rolled into one.
I mean it's supposed to be a race in which you are supposed to make get as many laps as you can and win. It seems like out of 70 cars on the track only 15 actually finished.

I just bought a POS mazda mx6 turbo for 600 dollars, that i want to enter in the 4 cylinder enduro....I will be the first to admit driving in one of these is abosolutely insane and scary to say the least...but it looks like so much fun doing anything you can to get ahead and win.

BTW...if you never seen one of these races...i guarentee you will remain glued to your seat the entire time and have the time of your life!

I have run in road race enduros. Nothing like you are describing. 6-12 hour events. Running into other cars is frowned upon.

NOSTROMO,
I did it for about 6 years. I quit now but it is a rush.
We ran it on a 1/4 mile medium banked oval (Flat Rock Speedway) south of Detroit. 250 Laps basically anything goes. I could get up to 65 or 70 in the short staight a ways. It is a blast trading paint at speed.
This race lasted 2 or 3 hours (due to red flags for fires, hurt people, moving cars off the track when they died).
Our rules were full size cars 112" wheel base (no Mustangs). Front engine, carb. no EFI, roll cage, safety wheels, fire suit.
I do miss the roundy-round stuff.

Let us know how it turns out,

the next one i will enter will be in july....one car caught fire and it was streaming the whole way around the track till they red flagged it.

To be REALLY honest i will probably greande my shorts....no one got hurt or anything...at least the ones i seen.

How safe is it really and do you have any tips on that kind of driving?

Thanks
Anthony

If you think that's fun try cruiser racing. It takes two ppl to drive (one steers and brakes the other runs the gas). I did it for two years and had nothing but fun. The same rules basically apply(roll cage, fire suit, fuel cell,etc..) We would race on 3/8 mile dirt track with heats and A,B features. Really easy to get into and cheap to start($1000 per person).

I've heard of but never watched figure eight train races up north. Where three cars are coupled together end to end. Front car has a motor driver and no brakes. Center car has no motor, no driver. Back car has driver, no motor and brakes. It sounded cool but never got a chance to see it.

I wouldn't worry about the safety. The rules are there for a reason. Put a good cage in it. Have someone who knows how to weld instal it. Good 5 pt harness installed properly and most importantly tightened up (especially the strap that goes between your legs). A harness that isn't tight is more dangerous.

Thumbs up

We just had a 80 car enduro race at our local track last week(Star Speedway Epping,NH).Four cyl cars only, glass removed, doors chained or welded, helmet and no yellow unless there is a fire or injury. It
is a blast to watch but I will not let my daughter run them. She drives the 4cyl roadrunner class where you have full cage, fuel cell etc.Much safer.

OMG, hahahaha, are you guys serious?!?!?! This stuff sounds like an absolute hoot! What you guys are describing sounds completely insane! Like Mad Max meets Hot Wheels figure 8 smash 'em up! I have NEVER heard of or seen anything like this. Is it ever on ESPN or Speedvision or anything? I have GOT to see this unbridled mechano/human carnage!

Talking

Did they run a jamb car or truck out there with you on the track? I seen one where they had a jamb truck. Thats what it said on the door. Had a yellow flashing light on the roof and when cars would start to crap out, he would push them off into the infield. Funniest thing about it was the jamb truck ran faster than the stock cars ....lol. I also seen him get tagged a few times.
Crazy stuff

I heard about that....the truck is supposed to be a tank on wheels wheels pretty much. I think it ups the ante with objects on the track....i have seen cars totally spun around the wrong way, pop it into reverse, and keep going!!! Talk about insane! This one guy was even driving while his hood came undone and was proped full open!

I tell you what though, if you stall on the track...it's only a matter of time before someone....or a bunch of someones plow into you.

Yes they had a Jam Car. They would keep the track as clear as possible unless things were getting too rammy. Then they would let it get plugged up to slow things down.
They would move the cars but wouldn't clean up the oil or antifreeze it made it interesting diving into a corner that a guy just dumped his radiator in.

I raced in one of the enduros about 15 years ago. They started 100 cars on a quarter mile track for 200 laps. There were only 15 cars left at the end of the race. I managed to finish 11th. It was a blast and i will never forget it.I was driving a 73 olds cutlass.
