Question Help with keypad install

I am fixing to put the keypad on my 2001 Supercrew XLT. I have read the thread with the install pictures and the only questions I have are these...

1- How exactly do you remove door panel (where are the screws). I am so afraid of doing this and having some loose panels or rattles.

2- What is best way to remove insulation material. How to reapply it.

3 - Some have mentioned that the door handle tends to be a little loose. How can this be avoided.

Thanks guys...

Go here for great directions https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/004829.html It's really a easy install, took me 45 min. The plastic pieces around the handle and window controls just pull out. goodluck

SCOOBY,

As for the insulation, just slowly peel it off and be careful to place the sticky side up when laying it aside.

As for door handle secureness explain a little further about your concern.

Scooby14B, Check out TOYMANs post. It should answer all your questions.
For the insulation, do you mean the plastic under the door panel? Use a hair drier as TOYMAN suggested. It takes a little time but it does work.
Door handle secureness.....Not sure what you are asking about. Can you rephrase?

Sorry guys....maybe I should have explained it better to begin with.

I havent took the door off so as for the insulation I was talking about whatever was in the post to use a hairdryer on...figured it was the pressed insulation type.

As for the door "secureness", I had read some posts about the door handle moving a little and being a little loose. Was wondering what caused this and how to avoid it.

Also, I take it the lock cylinder stays in place.

Oh the wiggle problem is with the keypad itself. Does your keypad have provisions for one screw or two? Mine was the one screw type, but one screw seems to hold it in just fine. My keypad doesn't wiggle at all.

A hairdrier will work just great for the plastic insulation behind the door panel. Just take your time and it comes right off. As far as the door handle moving or wiggling a bit. I remember reading a post where someone indicated they had a helper hold the door handle in position as they tightened the two screws that hold the door handle on. My handle fit tight and flush to the door handle so I can't comment on that aspect. I can say that the handle I got has small plastic tabs on the bottom that actually forced me to push the handle in. I was a little concerned because it was so tight but once in, it didn't move. As far as the keypad, mine didn't come with a screw to attach it to the handle. The Ford dealer didn't show one on his computer but if you can get one (or two as needed)like the screw that holds the door panel on, I think that would work great. The keypad itself can move a bit within the opening on the handle. I was able to adjust it after installation of the handle with no problem. As a matter of fact, I was able to install the handle then install the keypad!
