On the subject of warranty's, what I think REALLY sucks, is that some dealerships are cool and are taking care of there SVT owners and some dealerships are treating there SVT owners like they are criminals.
I guess what I'm saying is that it is totally up to your dealer, some don't care what you do, as long as the truck looks reasonably stock when you bring it in for a new motor, other dealerships won't even talk to you if they suspect you put a chip in it.
I also think that Lightning boards like this are saving alot of potential damage to alot of trucks, just because it is educating folks on what is going on with there trucks that is if you take the time to ask or read.
But on the other hand boards like this are teaching alot of folks were all the cool hot rod stuff is too. Six of one......

Here is what I ran into when I just took delivery of a 2001 Expedition EB.
During the paper signing, I had to sign and check a 3part paper form (Ford Logo'd, not Dealer Logo'd) stating that if you do any of the following .....x x x x x ......that you are willfully voiding the Ford factory warranty:
The list included:
* Performance mods - ECU chips and other aftermarket computer chips, turbos, super chargers, pop chargers, nitrous, etc.
* After market wheels and tires that throw off the factory off-set (since a nasty offset like the little wheels that stick way outside the wheel wells will destroy the bearings)
* Suspension mods - lift kits, lowering kits (other than load assist air bags) and stuff like that.
The business manager at delivery also said that Ford is beginning to clamp
down on warranty claims (I suspect after some of the Firestone and rollover
stuff) and said that if I performed routine maintenance on my own (ie Oil
Changes, etc) that I should keep the receipts with the truck from the quick
Lube place, or the receipt from the autoparts store that I bought the oil
and filter at, etc.
I do that anyway, but he said that in the case of warranty claims after Jan
2001 that the dealership performing the work would probably begin looking at
the service records of the rig closely.

IF HANDLED PROPERLY YOU'LL BE ABLE TO FIND A DEALER WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU,IT TOOK AWHILE, BUT THERE OUT THERE.I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY THOUGHT WE WERE GONNA DO WITH THESE MONSTERS , HAUL GRAVEL,, NOPE GONNA HAUL A$$.
This country is so FULL of no good A$% sucking lawyers. It all started with them communist bastard Ruskies. Seriously, be careful of all mods when turning in your vehicle for warranty and failure-related service. This is THE era of blaming others for ANY and ALL problems. Cover your A$% and make sure you know your service manager very well (i.e. feed him a case of Bud) before turning in your steed. I had nightmares to report with my civilian Cobra. NOSTROMO has the right attitude brotherman.

i don't blame them, lets face it, if we change it we should be willing to pay for the damages we make by changing---other wise wait till you are out of warranty before you make the changes.
i know i'm going to be cussing myself when one of the mods i make screw up, but thats the chance i'm taking.
even if the damage is not caused by any mod, but a failure on fords part--i feel it is still my fault for not following warranty procedure.
again, i state, wait for the warranty to run out if your concerned.

I have been showing off all the Mod's I
have done to my Red 99 since day one to my SVT sales man. I was shocked when the service manager told me that he didn't want to see any more pictures of me winning races
or the truck at the drag strip running it. He
said it was his job to report that kind of stuff.(he didn't say where)and he seemed to
me upset about it. If I was a car dealer and
someone that bought a car or truck from my place came back to show off what he won with it I would be asking him to leave it in the show room for advertizing for a short time. And I was in to try to have him give me the
grill parts they ordered to repair my lower grill. Well they ordered the wrong part(s) and I had removed the grill so it would not
fall off as there was only three small mounts left and it was viberating and messing up the paint. So I showed him on the
bumped cover a broken slot the grill goes into and and said that should be replaced too! I also told him what was wrong with the fuel tank pick up as they didn't have a clue
what was wrong. I think that he got short cause I really crazy and carry a hammer.

my personal dealer actually is thumbs up on mods. They always have one or 2 brand new F150s with lifts and wheel and tires already on them. The even lowered one and put it on the showroom floor for sale.I don't lnow how they feel about performance mods though as I have yet to make my truck go faster.
Has ford heard of the magnuson-moss warranty act? Sounds like the papers G. Andrews signed are in violation of it.

The answer to this *should* be easy...if the performance mod can be proven to have caused the failure/damage, then the owner should eat the cost. Otherwise, any mechanical, body, or construction defects that occur under warranty should be covered under warranty.

Ford to give you something in writing that they will void your warranty if any modifications are made. I would be willing to bet that they would not do it. If they do, it's a lawsuit waiting to happen with you being the beneficiary. About the only thing they legally could not be responsible for with just a filter 'N chip would be water ingestion through the filter or damage to the engine cause by the rev-limiter being raised beyond factory specs or any other engine problems that are a direct cause of the modifications. I went through this crap on my '97 C5 and have had no problems with any dealerships afterwards. I realize that if something breaks on my car that is caused by a mod that I added, then I am gonna be footing the bill. But for them to void most of, or the entire warranty, is a bunch of BS!
I guess the whole deal is here's the money take it and don't bring the truck back, like intercoolers, any problems there,ah yep.Tranmissions,ah yep, engine replacement,ah yep....fog lamps , need I say more. They( the dealers need to stand behind the product)a chip doesn't blow a fog lamp, dah, tell em what you think.Fortunately the dealership that does my service work is excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!
If your warranty is DENIED then follow these steps:
Steps to Take if Your Vehicle Warranty Claim is Denied
The link above includes these links too:
SPECIALTY AUTO PARTS CONSUMERS BILL OF RIGHTS
and
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) & Clean Air Act Warranty Provisions (42 U.S.C. S 7541 (C) (3) (B))
...which this last link has the states:
ALSO, in Ford's 2001 SVT brochure that you get from the dealer it states:
Please note the "at a drag strip" in the above quote.
Now, further into the brochure at the end it states the Performance #'s and the means they used to test this.
Also, in other books from Ford it shows Ford burning the tires down like it ain't nothing, YES, POWERBRAKING IT!!! Now we all know how fun this is, but we also know how bad this destroys rear brakes. So Ford is promoting this?
Anyhoo, hopefully this will help people in their battle against Ford and their ratty dealers. I could come up with soooo much more proof of how Ford asks us to abuse these vehicles...hell, they were designed for it. They even sell high performance parts for most of their high powered vehicles, and THEN they even give us a discount at Bob Bondurants school of high speed driving!
