out of state purchase
What is the procedure in making a purchase out of state as far as registration and what tax is paid? Also does anyone know of a dealer accepting the x-plan in a western state? I'm in CA.
Thanks.
Thanks.
You pay the tax in the state which the vehicle will be registered in. If you are paying cash, you will get a MSO (Manufacturing State of Orgin) to use to title the vehicle in your home state with. If you are going to finance, it will need to be setup in your state and then the dealer can draft on the financing institute which will handle all taxes. You would then be responsible for the tags and inspection.
Good hunting.
Good hunting.
I am in Texas and buying my L under X-Plan in Virginia (yeah, long but fun drive ahead of me...)
Anyhow, my drive out price stands at $28,860 including title fee and a Virginia temporary tag good for 30 days.
According to my Ford dealer in Virginia Beach I will 30 days to register my truck in Texas and pay the sales taxes too...
Hope this helps you and good luck searching!
p.s. I know of dealers in Mobile... Pensacola... and Virginia Beach selling Ls under X-Plan

Fords SVT group told me these trucks are 50 state vehicles. So be it but there are only two epa stickers one for all other 49 states and one that also mentions Ca. I talked with the Air Resources Board here in Ca. and they said if it doesn't say Ca and it has under 7500 miles you won't be able to register it here.
Good Luck
This came from the CA DMV website....
What should a California resident look for when buying a new vehicle from another state?
Individuals are prohibited from importing, purchasing, or leasing a new vehicle from another state, unless the vehicle was manufactured for sale in California, and the Environmental Protection Agency label certifies the vehicle has California smog equipment. California considers a new vehicle to be any vehicle with less than 7,500 miles on the odometer at the time of purchase.
For more information, please call DMV at (916) 657-7669.
