Post My truck is slow......Dammit

about 600 miles on it with the new motor.Im getting great 60fts!! but my ET and MPH seem to be a little off.I feel that with my 60fts,If my truck was making enough power I should be 2 tenths quicker and more importantly MPH would be 2 mph faster.I ran this fast (almost)last year with just a chip/filter.

12.89@105
12.97@104
12.99@105

1.83
1.87
1.88

I figure i should be 12.6-7 consistant concidering my mods and also that Most of them were after I ran 12.9 last year(chip/filter only).I might gain 1 tenth with a shift kit and break in but I feel with 105s I am screwed.

And all I ask for is a 2.0 60'.

Even a 2.099 would be good.

hmm... I just hit a 2.064 60' tonight on my bone stock 2001, rolling on F1's. Too bad I only got one run in the 4 flippin' hours I was at Test n Tune... Blast the rain for starting 5 minutes before I would have run again!

I wouldn't be complaining that much. Your ET Streets obviously have helped your 60' times but your MPH is not that far off. My guess would be slight adjustment to the chip air/fuel ratios and duplicate the same atmospheric/weather conditions and you'd be right back where you were. But what do I know?

Cool

You bolted on all the goodies now ya got to talk to it right. LOL

Seriously, hows your front end alignment, are the wheels pointed in the right direction. These trucks have the steering gear in front of the wheels and its important that the front wheels are towed out a little bit. That way under acceleration they tend to tow in a bit and straighten out and cause less drag.

Thats enough speed secrets for today.

Wouldn't the difference in times also be reflected by Temp., Altitude, Barometric pressure, tire pressure, drivers skills, track prep, etc. etc. ?? Oh well, good luck with your times. Hope things work out for you. BTW, I'd kill (not literally) for times like that. My 14.2 at 5,100+ ft. above sea level in 100 deg. weather isn't turning me on.

Another 00 for comparison year old off the shelf swanson chip and pro-m ,373 gear ,straight pipes , mt et streets,tb on 93 amaco 1.860= 12.796 108.53 1.936= 12.879 108.97 on a slightly drizzly day. These runs are at 700 above sea level and temps in the mid 60s.I think you need a lot more break in of that new motor and you will be quicker and faster.

Lightningquick:
You think you have it bad? I can run 1.84 60ft times on E/T streets and F1's, but still my times are only 13.43's at over 101mph!!! Explain that one.

Well,Im running the new program johnny gave me which was supposed to give me my best ET without pinging. It seems to have worked,Im not getting any pinging at all yet and my times although are not great,They are respectable.I know my truck cannot handle any more air because,I had both chips at the track and I changed it for one run ,it started to ping and I ran a 13.07 so my air/fuel is as lean as I can safely run with the new chip.My 'NEW' tranny seems sluggish to tell you the truth!!.I am wondering if it can have that much effect on my ET and/or MPH.I would be more than happy with 12.60s consistant at 107.Also,low mileage

1 more thing.Last year I ran 13.2s consistant until I put on my strait pipes. Then I always fell between the 12.9-13.1 so they Do make a difference.Right now,I have the factory exhaust on so Im not really comparing apples to apples.I dont want you guys to think my mods dont work. They must be just little by little. If you take 13.2xx-12.8xx you can see that somehow between some of my later mods,I gained 3 tenths.I guess,I will wait 1 more month, put my strait pipes on along with a new shift kit and maybe I will be singing a different tune Im also pretty sure the Slicks are a major reason for the ETS Im getting now......Im lost with a slow truck.DAMMIT!!

In my case when i put my E.T streets on i lost 1 to 11/2 MPH at the track!I did a test last night with the E.T's verse the drag radials and i was quicker by 1 tenth and faster by 11/2 MPH every time with the drag radials! The funny thing is the E.T's hook much better than the drag radials but are alot slower on E.T on my truck!

LQ, you write:
about 600 miles on it with the new motor
and then complain that it isn't fast. Hasn't the standard comment around here been that these motors really loosen up after 3-4K miles? Why would your NEW motor be any different? I bet in the next month - after you have put another 1500 miles on it - you'll claim that the straight pipes you've just added made all the difference. Try and keep it to one mod at a time before you make wild claims. And yes, miles on a new motor is considered a mod.

As I keep looking at the facts,I think Im gonna be fine once it has broken in,I put my exhaust on and get my tranny strait.

For any of you guys whos trannys go bad,DONT let them put in a reman trans like mine.my 98 ranger shifts 10 times harder than this new "reman " tranny!!.I think my old tranny with sloppy shifts was a little better than the new one. This one lost 3rd,OD,and reverse for about 1/2 hour and then everything was ok.........How screwed up is that!!

tranny shifting....i had a new tranny installed, the spring for the 1-2 shift was very soft, not like the original spring on the original tranny...try a shift kit and maybe a converter, you'll feel it shift real good,

Also along with what Larry said, It is my opinion that these trucks kind of hit a wall at about 105/106 mph until you do some exhaust work. At least mine did, my truck was stuck at just under 106 and I was trying all kinds of junk. But when I did the exhaust, all hell broke loose.

Like I said this is just my opinion, and what happened to my truck. Your results may vary.
