Post Lightning Police Cruiser?

I remember in Texas the Highway Patrol used 5.0 'Stangs for their cruisers (as well as Z28s). Here in my neuvo-riche suburb of Kansas City the local officers use Tahoes/Yukons. Has anyone seen a Lightning with lights and badges? That'd be sawweeeet.

Good idea but that would never happen. The L is way too expensive and not functional enough to justify the price. The police could use a Z28 or firechicken for a lower cost and probably get more functionality.

Out here, we have crown vics, expeditions and cameros, along with a few misc older trucks used for forest patroling. The expeditions are sweet. What I can't believe is that the state police say they are going broke......

You'd be hard pressed to find a police department with a L, me thinks - although I have seen a couple that used the old (good) Impala SS circa 1996. Why use a Caprice Classic when you can go all the way?

They do have F150 extended cabs here in Orange County, FL as well. Some of them are totally stealth with the lights inside the cab up under the rear view mirror where you can't really see them. Others are all decked out with the local Sheriff's sticker package and a light bar. My neighbor was OPD for a time and he said they actually got into a high speed chase with a guy in a Lightning, couldn't catch him but they knew where he lived so they caught up with him later.

There are two Lightnings operating out of the Texas DPS barracks at Mangum & Hwy 290 here in Houston. I have seen them running radar on 290 and on I-10. Needless to say, I was shocked right out of my shoes when I saw them both parked at the po-lice substation.

They are both pretty stealth, with the classic DPS black & white paint jobs, & no light bar. From the side, they look like just another black L. I got a closer look and the lights on the front are mounted in front of the intercooler in the bottom grill, and the rear lights are in the back window w/strobes in the tail lights.

Be careful, Da man be's watchin'....

Wyldman:

Certainly only in Texas would one find Lightning's as Police Vehicles.

If possible, could you post some pics for the archives as these are rare birds for sure.

Ok, so is this overkill for a police cruiser?

I don't see why not. They could use one that has been seized. I do know there was(don't know if it's still comissioned) a ZR1 that did HWY Patrol duty in FL. It was a drug seized car that was put to good use. I believe it was in Motor Trend several years back.....
