Post New Thunderbirds?????

I know this isn't really Lightning related but was just curious what everyone thought of the 2001 T-Bird.
I got transfered to Wixom Assembly Plant in the T-Bird department. So I've had a chance to give the new Bird a good looking over. I like the looks but think they need more power (3.9L V-8 4 cam 16 valve) also need a manual trans and go on a diet (4000lb with removable hard top). Four wheel independent suspension is nice, balanced almost perfect at 1000lbs per wheel. Also a little pricey at $40,000.
There is pics at the Ford site. I don't know how to move them here. I was just wondering what everyone thought.

If I had more money, I'd buy one.

It's a nice looking car, a cruiser in the same style as the original. Not a corner carver but a nice looking car to take to the beach. I wouldn't mind having one in my garage.

i sold my 99 lightning which i really loved, and i thought i would buy a new thunderbird when they came out. i went to the vancouver auto show and they had a beautiful 56 and a new one there together. the new one i found was kind of just ok, a little dissapointing and for sure not as pretty as the older t bird. i dont think they got it just right on the new one. also they informed me it wasnt coming in til fall. i didnt want to wait either, so i bought a new lightning and i am in love again with this truck.

I like the looks, but it needs more go. Looks like too soft of ride for my taste. Classy but not sporty enough.

HR,

I think the new t-Bird is really nice, i Tried to talk my wife into one, but she said No Way....I'm not going through what you went through with your intercooler.

When are you going to unveil the "Project"?

I talked with a few dealer friends of mine and they all assured me the additional dealer markup will be $10,000!!!!! So actually it will be a $50,000 car. (at least here in NJ)

It needed the 32 valve 4.6 motor. I guess maybe it don't fit. I'd love to have a sports roadster version though.

Hey High Risk, I work at Wixom too. I work in dept 85 on the night shift. Is your truck the red one or the lowered black one. just wondering! You are pretty brave to take yours to work the way most of those whackos drive in the parking lot.

Tom,
Mine is the one in my parents barn with no motor, no rear end and in a zillion little pieces right now.LOL
I'm an electrician on the midnight shift (11:30pm to 7:30am) in the T-Bird Trim and Chassis Area. Transfered over from the truck plant about 3 weeks ago. Come look me up we run at a blistering pace out here but I should have time to talk. LOL

High Risk....Put a little "something something" extra in the silver T-bird headed to All-American Ford in Hackensack NJ. Hell, sign the undercarrage, so I know it was you.

Fast Gator,
Do you have a VIN # yet? I don't know if I'm suppost to be saying this or not, but they have postponed job #1 til June. They are having some quality issues. Sorry don't want to be the bringer of bad news. They are VERY serious about these things being right before full production. I can see their point if I was to spend that much on a car and all the issues with a brand new model I wouldnt mind waiting. JMO
Once your dealer can get a VIN for your car let me know. I will talk to scheduling and keep an eye on it for you. Can't do much about the "something something extra" but will keep you posted on it's progress and have the inspectors take a little extra time on it.
