Angry First one to have 01 engine replaced??

I took 200 mile trip, this last weekend, to meet up with some of my family. About half way there my wife and I stopped at a store to get a couple of sodas, and when I started the L up, I heard a loud knocking sound, so I pop the hood and listen, the drivers side engine bank sounded like hefty smurf with a 2# hammer whacking away on the block!! We continue are trip, hoping the pickup will make it. We make it to are destination, leave early, and have one of the family members follow us back home. The L made it home, but it was really knocking by then. I call my dealer, who is about 95 miles away, on Tuesday, I take the L up that afternoon, and the tech says, "yep you will need a new engine."I just got off the phone with them now, and they said it was the #7 rod, and the new engine will be here in 10 to 14 days! Seems like a long time, especially when the loaner car is a used focus. My L had 5237 miles on it when I dropped it off at the dealership. I called JDM, for advice before I took it in, and Jim told me that this is the 3rd one he has heard of. I will update this when I hear more..

Cool

Did you spin the #7 rod bearing? With problems like these showing up, I doubt I'll keep this truck past its warranty period.

Yep, That's why I got the 6 year/60K mile warranty. In all honesty with these motors making as much power as they do, you really can't expect for Ford not to have some problems out of a few of them!

hey Trevor D, the service tech said that he thought that the #7 rod bearing spun, he was sure that it was the #7 rod though, svt would not let him open up the engine, they just want it sent to them, so they can tear it down.

I better order my 03 L so i can trade mine in so I have a warrenty! Lots of problems with these L's. From small stuff to bg stuff. I know most owners beat the engines like used donkeys but isnt that what they are made to do? And thats not even mentioning the general craftsmanship issues that constantly arrise. My 00 Excursion already has rattles in the dash! I dont want to tinker with it I want to drive it!

I wonder if it has anything to do with the lighter weight oil?
