Post AxleCam (rear axle)

I had an idea earlier today and this evening crawled underneath the truck trying to find a place to quickly mount a camera. After discussing the suspension kits for the last several weeks, I wanted to see how the suspension looks while cornering, accelerating, braking, etc.

This is a real quick video capture and there is 16 other minutes of video to review. I just thought I'd post this for fun. Because it was such a quick thing tonight (I took the video at 8 pm) I didn't have a chance to open it up and put the Lightning thru it's paces. But now that I know how the setup works, I'll be more productive with it the next time. For instance, I will wear a mic the next time to describe what the truck is doing so you know whether or not it's a right corner, hard left, etc.

Broadband (15 mb)

Slower internet connections (1.2 mb)

Does anybody have any items they want recorded? Hopefully this will help the suspension folks to see what's actually going on.

I also noticed is how the axle shifts quickly and slightly left to right on the corners.

Spike,

That was pretty cool, how hard was that to set up right there?

I have got an idea, but it has one pre-requisite.

Do you have the front-end clunk?

I looked underneath, and none of my friends trust me enough to get under my truck while I am behind the wheel. Wonder why

Strap the video camera to the front of a skateboard and then one of your friends (or enemies) can hold on to the rear bumper with both hands. Just be sure to yell out loud when you apply the brakes, unless you keep the tailgate down and pad the bed. I wouldn't suggest the same for video taping from the front.

Seriously though, the set up for the rear took about 10 minutes. I'm going to remove the spare tire and video the axle from the side so the axle wrap (stop and go) is shown better.

I mounted the camera this morning on the front passenger side showing the front suspension, but I haven't checked out the video. Yet, from the on-board camera, the video looked uneventful.

I'll video the clunk soon and publish it in real time and slow motion. It might take a few different angles before I get something meaningful on tape.

"Dreamin" had a great idea and I'm adding to the video list (from http://nloc.org/ubb/Forum2/HTML/001841.html):

Mount the camera inside the engine pointed at the throttle body and the rubber boot. I'll see on video whether or not the rubber boot collapses.

Hey Spike Thats what I call entertainment. A camera view of the lower bolt in the a-frame would be interesting, to see when the movement occurs. NICE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
