Question Ford tonneau pricing?

Does anyone know where I can get a decent deal on the Ford tonneau cover? The dealer wants $450 and fordpartsonline wants $380 shipped. Given that's it's a $150 factory option, there's got to be a better deal out there.

Thanks,
Edward

Edward, I posted a thread asking if anyone knew who made it for ford hoping for a better price but none of the leads paid off. Some Company is making the Tonneau cover for ford if we can just find the right lead to who they are we might get a better price than FORD.

01SVT,
The 99/00 and most likely 01 cover is made by Invostyle/Bestop for Ford(all 3 yrs are the same style). It is a Ford part not their part and as I said in the other post, they probably can't and won't sell it to you. I know you e mailed them but I got a warranty replacement from them and then another top because of curling. You will have to get it from Ford. I got mine from Ford parts and it just happened to be drop shipped directly to the dealer with their return address and phone #. I had a bad time with the parts guy and decided to try direct. As a matter of fact this cover was on the Nascar truck in 98. I'm sure you will not get it from them on a direct purchase, it is not theirs to sell to the public.

Tom,
Thank you for all yor help! IM sure you are right, If I decide to go with a factory cover I guess I will have to order it from Ford. Would you sugest any other soft covers that you think would look good? Oscar,

I don't know of any less expensive option if you want to go with the soft tonneau. However, for about $300-$400 more you can get a fiberglass lid, which is the way I'm going. I'm getting a Snuglid put on and it'll cost me about $950 installed without drilling it into the bed. I think that's the way to go. Why waste the cash on a soft cover when you can put a few more bucks into it and get the hard one? Just my $.02.

Oscar,
I think the factory soft cover is about the nicest I have seen, If you find someone selling one that came with the truck buy it, it's the best bet on getting it at or around the factory price.

tliss,
I like the looks of some of the hard covers but you have to plan ahead to put something large in the bed. The soft cover rolls up nice and easy. I have needed that option several times.

tliss: Have you seen the paint finish on those Snuglids up close. I've seen quite a few; and I must say that I'm not impressed. I planned on purchasing one as well; but then I started seeing them up close. The finish is not very smooth. It's worse than orange peel. It looks like the surfaces are not prepped very well. The vertical surfaces that cover the bed rails look even worse. Additionally, the edges are not even painted on all the lids I've seen. About half are just bare white on the bottom edge. I haven't been able to get a look at an ARE up close, so I can't talk about that lid.

Are there lids available unpainted? Does anyone know how much it would cost to have a lid painted at a body shop? If I were to get a hard lid; I would want the paint to look as good as factory.

This may sound stupid, but given the way the Ford tonneau attaches, can't it become unfastened? Soft tonneaus expand/contract with heat/cold so even if it didn't un fasten itself it could look "wavy" due to it being loose, right? Just a thought.
