Unhappy wreck on the way back from wfc4.

so there i was.. in the mountains just outside of mountain view arkansas. it had been raining on and off all morning & the roads were slickery.

i came around a curve and saw smoke rising from the ditch between the road and the side of the mountain.
i looked down from the smoke, and what used to be a taurus was settling in the ditch.

i parked on the side of the road, tried to call 911 (no signal) and went see if the driver is okay..

i found him laying in the back seat unconscious, covered in blood, dirt and offal. needless to say, i didn't move him.
a few minutes later an off duty paramedic & a nurse stopped to help.
a couple of other people went into town to call 911.

the car was demolished.. he must have skidded coming around a curve & overreacted..
he hit the ditch, ran into a huge drain culvert, & flipped.
the culvert peeled the bottom of the car off! i could see the ground below the pedals!

this young guy could use some prayers..
i gave the cop that showed up my name and number & asked him to contact me with his condition later..

i drove home slow, got in late, but intact.

OMG clone, that's not a fun thing to deal with seeing somebody hurt like that. No telling how long he had been there. Thanks for being the good samaritan and stopping. You may have just saved his life.

I spent time as a kid in the whole Timbo/Mountain View area (grandparents lived there) and I know just how twisty those roads can be. My brother had a nearly identical accident near Mountain View as well. He also went into a sizable ditch. Just be glad the guy didn't go off of one of the many cliff-side road edges...several hundred feet down.

Kudos to you again.

Brooks. Kudos to you for stopping to help.

I came across a very similar situation with my brother a few months ago. I'll never forget seeing what was left of a Z34 Lumina upside down in a creek about 20' below the road. We stayed and helped the ambulance crew pull him up the hill on the backboard. Don't have a clue what happened to him after that.

One thing I will mention, the smell of alcohol in his car was very strong.

I commend you on stopping to check his condition, for you to show human compassion is awesome. However (you knew it was coming), please do not be afraid to check and see if the person(s) are breathing. Many times the victims have obstructions (usually a tongue) blocking their air passage. I know there are alot of STD's out there, BUT you could save a life. I can tell you THATS AN AWESOME FEELING. Remember Good Semaritan Laws will protect you (up to a point). Again, great job Clontek.
Let me now dawn my Nomex.

thank god there are some people in this world that still care.

I know what you mean about the rain comming home. we left at like 7:00 last night and all the way home it rained and with bob's trailer and eddie's trailer it took us about 6 hours to get home to chicago. slow but safe, it got kinda windy and almost took eddies's trailer out! So we did about 55 MPH the whole way home.

Way to go, just goes to show that there ARE good people left in the world. Hope everything turns out for the best for him. Good not to hear of any problems for all our people returning home from WFC

redneck - i made sure the guy was breathing before i did anything.. i remembered that if they are breathing & aren't in any danger (ie - car on fire, fuel leaking) dont move them.
although he was knocked out, i stood there talking to him until a off duty paramedic and nurse stopped to help.
i guess all that boy scout training came in handy.

Brooks, looks like your quite the ladies man! LOL ... Glad you made it in safe. Got my billet grill installed. Used your how-to-page, sure made it a lot simpler. I'll have to get some pics posted. Hope you were able to take some pics from the event and post them. I've got to go next year ! - Rick -
