The older posts are in the archieves now. this is the one i was refering to:
HI!... NOELVM : Yes! You are correct that mechanical guages are more accurate than electrical ones. I've used both over the years and am still looking for an electrical guage that is accurate. I now only use mechanical guages on all my projects. I espeically ONLY use AUTOMETER guages because with testing, I have found that 99% of the time they are RIGHT on. If you look at where your oil filter screws on, the aluminum casting has a pipe thread taped hole which has a electric STOCK oil sender in it. I simply removed the stock sender and installed a brass "T" in it's hole. This way I can run the stock sender and my aftermarket mechanical guage as well. Instead of using the NYLON tubing that came with the AUTOMETER guage, I used -3 stainless steel braided line from the "T" all the way to the back of the guage. As for the water temp, I in stalled a brass "T" with BARB fittings at each end. I then screwed the AUTOMETER sensor into the top of the "T". Then find the heater hose (passenger side, rear of engine) that comes from the engine to the heater core. DO NOT USE THE HOSE FROM THE HEATER CORE TO THE ENGINE! If you do that then when you use your heater you will get a FALSE reading on your temp guage. The heater core blower fan will cool the antifreeze slightly before it gets back to the engine. Simply cut the heater hose and slide it over each end of the BARBED "T". Then fasten with 2 stainless steel hose clamps. It's pretty easy once you do it. Hope this helps you out.

fASTBOLTofLIGHT,
I just installed the same mechanical guages (3) from FRPP (made by Autometer)-BOOST,WATER and OIL PRESSURE.
1) Boost-Tee off the vacuum line in the back of the engine going through the firewall BEFORE the rubber reducing flange. (got a 1.5 lb+ different reading then after the rubber reducer)
2) Water Temp-Same instructions as Noel gave.
BUT-Cut the line AFTER the RESTRICTOR (in the 3/4"hose hose going from the intake to the heater core) Reason being- MidNitrous-Express put his BEFORE the restrictor and blew the line, off the tee, TWICE.
3) Oil Pressure-on my 99l the OEM oil pressure switch was located FRONT OF Drivers side Motor Mount-Same instructions as Noel.
Hope this helps, too.
