JL Diablo chip question (hard shifts)
I installed the JL diablo chip last week. I love the way the truck runs now, but it shifts really hard even at low rpms when you are just tootling around. Is this the way all of them are or do I need a chip reburn?

I finally got to meet Johnny a couple of weeks ago in Columbus after almost a year of e-mailing back and forth. Super guy. Anyway, he wanted me to try out the Diablo chip. JL and I went for a ride in my truck so we could evaluate it. It was very impressive in the power dept., and I've personally had at least 6 or 7 different programs in my truck from different vendors. Yes, it does shift very firm including part throttle. It made my sick tranny feel the best it has ever felt, and he has had many customers want this type of feel, so that's why he does it. He asked my opinion, and in my truck it was great. But WHAT04 is right, it's not for everyone and JL knows that. Just call him and send it back. He can easily fix it however you'd like.

My first JL (pre-Diablo) chip shifted a bit too hard under part throttle for my taste. On the second go around, I asked JL to reburn it for a shift kit and it turned out perfect!
With the reburned chip and no shift kit, the truck shift almost the same as stock. With the shift kit in place, the truck shifted the same under part throttle, but leaves the rear tires scratching for traction under WOT 1-2 shifts.

They do NOT all shift like that. In fact, I think that a chip that shifts really hard at less than half throttle is a pain in the a$$.
Been there, done that.
But they can be programmed not to.

I bought a DiabloSport chip also a few weeks ago. From www.PDQPerformance.com The power is great but the shift was hard. Not the best for just normal driving. I sent the chip back and spoke with the guys on the phone and they reprogramed the shifts for normal operation. It will only shift hard noew on WOT. Its great !!! I have not been to the track yet but they tell me the power is still the same just shifts like factory now. Except for the WOT.

I had to send my Diablo chip back to them 3 times to get it right.
1st Detonated and shifted too harsh
2nd Detonated and shifted stock.
3rd Ran OK shifted too harsh at partial throttle.
4th Runs OK and shifts slightly harsher partial throttle.

The softer you shift, the longer it takes the clutches to engage, and the more friction and heat you build up. 'nough said.
