Question Opinions on Batteries?

I know asking if someone here has an opinion on anything automotive is like asking a cage of monkeys if they like bannanas....but does anyone here know anything about batteries.

The one in my Saleen does not seem to be holding a charge, and it is dead in the parking lot at work. I was wondering if you guys knew anything about the different brands? I had always heard that Die Hard was the way to go.

Interstate, or better yet, an Optima. Get one of the gel batteries. It'll cost you, but you get what you pay for. After all, it's going in a Saleen...

Well since you have a stang I say get a dynabat, they are reliable and lightweight, will cut about 15lbs off your front end. Never heard a complaint about them.
otherwise I'd get an Optima.

Optima. Gell cell technology therefore no acid leaks causing corrosion under the hood. They also hold a charge longer and will last longer than a standard lead acid battery.

What is the benefit to a Gel battery? (n/m Just answered by Peter B while I was positng..thanks!) I don't think weight is really an issue since Saleens are tanks anyway.

I just want something cheap, that will last, and won't die from the drain from the alarm system every week.

Well, you didn't mention cheap. An Optima Gel battery should run around $200.

YIKES!!!

That seems like a hell of a lot of money to spend on a battery. I don't see the benefit you get for double the price over a regular battery. Am I missing something?

'351:

I would avoid the Die Hard at all cost. I got one a while back for the Grand Prix and it died ("hard", I suppose) after a couple of months. They replaced it under warranty with no hassle. Well, it died again (very "hard" this time) under the awning in front of the Benz dealer as we were taking delivery of the ML320 (much to my horror). I tore the 'Prix down in the Benz parking lot (major disassembly to remove the battery) and found that the entire negative terminal had fractured, pulled out of the battery, and dumped a ton of acid all over. Replaced it with a generic Wal-Mart/Meijer battery and have had no issues since.

I thought the fractured terminal was a one-in-a-million until it happend a week later to a woman I work with. Another Die Hard (in a Bonneville).

Thumbs up

After having a conventional battery fall over
in the trunk of my coupe doing a hole shot and spending six hours cleaning the mess up with baking soda,I would not go with anything other than an Optima. It will also
keep enough of a charge to start it after a four month storage!Money well spent!!

reasons for an optima: 1. experience-bot my first one in 93 or 94 for my camaro z281le(daily driver & road course use) 2. can be mounted in any position--on its side, upside down, etc. 3. no maintenance-none-ever. 4. no corrosion. 5. smaller-lighter(new technology-spirals instead of plates). 6.not harmed by vibrations or chip shifts. there are more but i suffer from CRS--CAN'T REMEMBER S*$#!

Find a parts store that has Motorcraft. They last and are not expensive. And it looks right under the hood.
