Question Oil Additives

Any thoughts on adding Slick50 or useing Mobil1 ?

I have used the mobil1 in all my bikes in the past and have never had any trouble.
Also what the advantage of useing Red-Line water wetter. I know it suppost to help diapate heat but does it really work.

Use quality oil and if it makes you feel any better, use the money for Slick50 to change the Mobil 1 more often. Oil additives are snake oils that isn't worth the bottle that they comes with, IMHO.

Thumbs down

Consumer Reports conducted a test in 1999 on two cars of identical make and mileage. One had Prolong added to the oil. The oil was drained from both engines, and they were taken out on the road... Guess what happened?

That's right, both engines failed within seconds of one another. If you're a member of Consumer Reports on-line, you should be able to find this test in their archives.

Well, that's a leap of faith for anyone to believe the "labs" that claims the engine was not damaged...

But I do have a friend (running Royal Purple in his 302) who snapped an oil pump shaft in the middle of a session at Heartland Park. He noticed the motor was running "weird" but didn't notice the oil pressure gauge wasn't showing any pressure at all. It was at least another couple of minutes on the track at full throttle before he noticed the oil pressure gauge. They replaced the oil pump shaft and the motor kept on running for at least another year (the car was his daily driver) before he finally swapped it for a 331. The motor was running weak and burned oil, but the bottom line is that it kept on ticking.

This is not a "my oil beats up on your oil" post. But it shows that snake oil like Slick50 isn't as much of a miracle product as they claims. I wonder what Bobby Unser would say if someone ask him to put Slick50 in his Indy cars and drive around the track with no oil...

Save your money. Slik 50 is not necessary. Use agood quality Synthetic oil. It's money in the bank. I've used Redline for years in my daily drivers. I can't remember any type of engine failure under normal usage.

For me, normal usage includes trips to the drag strip, as well as high speed blasts across Angeles Crest Hwy., here in the local mountains.

Devil's Advocate speaking:

Ok, so how do those cars i.e. Viper stay running with no damage without any oil in the engine on those commercials?

Cool

Thanks for all the input. I was just using the name of (slick50). I have seen on the message board before that you should wait for 5k or before using the synthetic oil.

I have always just put it in wiht the first oil change. but again thanks for all the imput.

In your engine, no, in your radiator, yes

Yes, it does work. More than 1 bottle is fruitless though. Use Propylene Glycol (hey it saves animals!) and Distilled Water, and 1 bottle of Water Wetter. Use a ratio of about 75% Water and 25% coolant as long as you're not in freezing climates a lot.
