Does This Seem Right
My truck sounds like a diesel when I would start it up cold. So I pulled my chip which is a JL superchip. Disconnected the battery did all the standard procedures when removing chip. Waited until the motor was cold started it up and the sound was still there. I then drove the truck for about forty miles with the chip off, and finally took it to the dealer. The truck sat at the dealer over night and when they started it in the morning they heard the sound. The dealer than said we need the truck for one more night to hear the motor at cold start up again. So the following morning I get a call from the dealer stating the noise went away. I then picked up the truck that night and started it up cold and to my surprise the sound was gone. So I drove the truck for about 20 miles and the truck just feels so slow. I thought my mind was playing tricks on me so I took off from first as hard as I could and I couldn't even spin the wheels.
So my question is did someone at the dealer change something in my computer or is it my computer just getting use to not having a chip.

Just put the chip back in and keep an 8mm wrench with you just in case she breaks.................................... Oh yea, DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT
When it breaks you get a new engine, MAKE SURE YOU GET OR HAVE A WARRANTY EXTENDED OR OTHERWISE.

Yeah, only I carry a 10mm socket with me. I find that it fits 10mm bolts better than the 8mm. LOL

You guys aren't even helping this poor guy. Go troll on non technical posts, please.
Anyhoo, the sound you are hearing is piston slap. It's common in just about every "L" and usually the dealer doesn't do anything to help you. One person on this board had his motor replaced after it went out. Do a few searches on "piston slap" and see what all comes up (you may want to check the archives too since most of the old posts went there now).

If the noise went away and his truck is a dog what are we all supposed to know or do?
On the other hand,My motor is being replaced right now do to the piston slap.It had a knock when cold and it also rattled between 1-2 shift when you let off the gas a little bit just before the shift. It finally blew up about 8 months after I first noticed a problem. The problem (rattling) was ALOT more noticable with the chip but the knocking was there regardless.I feel that if you think you have piston slap you should install a chip to see if it rattles before the shift. This is the key to know if something is really wrong and will effect the life of the engine.

I don't think it's the piston slap because the sound went away i don't think the it's the chip because it just started to do it maybe 2 months ago.I think it might be the gas I'm using, but if it's not the gasoline I'm stumped.
I went through this.My truck stock knocked when cold since about 2k miles. After installing the chip,I noticed that it rattled before the shift.I brought it into the shop and told them that i had piston slap so they say the noticed a noise but it was a TSB on the blower belt.I always take my chip out when servicing so when i got it back it did not rattle.I was happy till i put my chip back in.Some people argue that its detonation but its not!.Anyway.My problem got worse at about 6 months old in oct/nov.Now it ws rattling all the way down the track after half of 2nd and all the way into 3rd.It sounded like timimg chain slapping but it was my piston slapping.i lived with it but this year it got terrible. It got to the point that every time I did a wot blast,it rattled away!!!!!!.So I noticed my times got worse with every mod I did and my MPH dropped off 2 mph and then 3 more AND FINALLY 88MPH IN THE 1/4 !!!and I knkew I had a problem so i took it out and wanted it to go ka boom cause my dealer kept blowing off the problem and thats when I kept running it,rattling the ***** out of it until it blew so I could get it replaced cause I knoew it was a serious problem and my dealer $ucks. It finally turned into a knock that did not go way and wala...... a new motor is on its way.
The reason I say a chip is a good tester is because it brings out problems so you can see if you really have a problem.Without a chip it probally would have not blown up till 36001.
No,The chip DID not make the problem but it did bring out the rattle worse!!
*****A girl i knows truck had the SAME problem!!! .She took me for a ride with the chip in and it rattled too.At this time,I was thinking maybe its normal but then she shows up on my door step and her motor was blown.I told her mine would eventually sound like that cause we had the same problem. WALA>>>>>>>.i week later and mine sounded the same.!!KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.My dealer wasnt too happy that they had to put 2 new motors in two Lightnings 1 week from each other!!!
IF YOU HAVE A RATTLE BEFORE THE SHIFT POINTS,YOU HAVE TROUBLE COMING.ILL BET MONEY ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ray,
I posted this earlier yesterday. Read my quote. Is this what you're talking about? If so, maybe that's why I'm down on power. I sure hope not though.
