Excepted drivetrain loss for our L's ????
What is the generally excepted loss. In the newest MM&FF they quote a 23% loss in the article about the 01 intake swap. I have also seen numbers as low as 11% discussed. From what I remember reading, 99 & 00 Lightnings put out around 320 rwhp. Using the 23% loss, this would equate to around 415 flywheel hp. Somebody has to be fudging some numbers somewhere.

I think I'd go with the 11% FactoryTech has quoted. Afterall, he builds the trannies for a living, so he should know. Plus, I thought he said one time they had a special machine at the factory to test them for losses. I wouldn't think the differential would be another 10% or more loss. Could be wrong about that though.

11 is about as low as you can get so use that number and then when you give #s to someone you know you are not exaggerating or anything.if anything you will be underestimating your truck. How many people can do that??not many,Most people are driving 350 chevy's with a mild cam running 400 hp!!!LOL LOL LOL
Our #s are impressive enough.use 11%

A few weeks ago a bunch of Lightning owners had a "gang" dyno session. One stock 1999 had 431 lbs. of rear wheel torque. At 11% loss, I think that makes flywheel torque at 485 lbs. Not bad. Numbers where posted on this Board.
A lightning 4R100 looses 11.2% @ max torque, to the rear wheels, trust me.
And it only gets better, the '03 will have the 5R110W transmission, more torque, lower 1st gear etc..., the engine makes over 500 Ft/Lbs of torque, I would guess the horsepower around about 415, but that's a guess.

Well, it better get a whole lot better if Ford expects me to trade up. Are you guys going to put some decent clutches in the 5R110 so that we don't have to rebuild the damned things when we override the ridiculous factory "torque reduction" with a chip?
And do you know whether the '03 motors will have a larger blower, as rumored?

Thanks, Azeem. I thought it would be nice to put both my babies in my sig. The original pic is of much higher quality, of course, I reduced it greatly for the benefit of the bandwidth impaired. Unfortunately, neither one of them is running properly right now, but the boat will be shortly. In the process of dropping the motors a couple notches. On the L., your guess is as good as mine.
