Fell in love again
Picked up my truck at the tranny shop this a.m. Put the chip back in, and drove it around a while. Now I remember why I loved this truck in the first place. Only problem now is getting it to hook with the higher stall speed (as if I could do it with the oem t.c.). Think I'm going to have to get me one of those traction control thingies (and a whole bunch of tires). Couldn't get ahold of Swanson, but I really need him to install my Cobra t.b. and burn his new program on my chip. Already have a motel res. in Bakersfield on June 8. I expect to see you there, Marcus. And any other of you So. Cal. owners - kobiashi, Jim Shaw, Superchicken, ciione, trabuco, Jay, and anybody else I forgot to mention, I hope some of you show up too. I plan to kick some serious bootay, then.

Awesome!! Did you get any ideas about the longevity of this new monster tranny from your shop?
Swanson's got a new progam? I've been thinking of having him custom-tune my truck, as I'm not happy with the pinging associated with the off-the-shelf program I'm running...

Well,I spoke to Danny recently and he mentioned that he had made some improvements in the program since he had sold me my chip, but my chip is well over a year old now. That's one reason I like it, Danny dynotuned it and I get no pinging. I would like him to increase the line pressure a little, but I don't want him to do anything to the chip that results in preignition.
And no, I didn't even ask Walt Kenyon to estimate how long the tranny would last. Results may differ, depending on the nut behind the wheel. He did mention that he had installed the same components behind his own Powerstroke Diesel. He tore the tranny down at 100,000 miles, just to see how it was doing, and he could still read the lettering on the clutch plates. There are two things that will kill an automatic transmission- heat, and heat. Also dirt. You don't want your truck to shift like the Old Folks' Buick; you want those clutch plates to slam together as hard as possible to minimize slippage, friction, and heat build-up. If your tranny has already failed you need to flush out the gunk from the radiator real good, so you cool the fluid again. And you should change the fluid at regular intervals, and add a bottle of Lube Gard. With those precautions I see no reason why my new tranny should not last 100k miles.

Danny custom tuned the chip on my truck. this is the only to maximize the performance, and still remain safe (no detonation). He uses an A/F meter that responds in real time and can monitor it while he is dynoing the truck. I like the chip that he burned for me last Feb. It runs strong, and I haven't heard a bit of pinging. It got me 377 RWHP.
Alphadoggy, what is the program for June 8? Is it a divisional race or a "run what ya brung"?
I have a set of traction bars that I built for my truck. If I get to Famosa, we can try them on your truck. they take about 10 minutes to R&R.
Phil, if you are monitoring this, email me with your phone #. We can arrange to measure your truck and build you a set.

Jay, I sure hope you can make it. Friday night is grudge night and test and tune, and Saturday is Summit ET race and open test and tune. http://www.famosoraceway.com/schedule.html
And I really appreciate the offer of the traction bars, but that is not the direction I am headed. Bars are great for the strip, but they compromise handling on the street. I run at the strip to see how my mods affect performance, and for bragging rights, but what I want is a bad street truck. I think the Racelogic system will be just the ticket.

DB, your last name isn't Cooper, is it? No wonder you have money for those mods. Are you going to make it to Famoso?

Alphadoggy, I built the "slapper bars" for that very reason. They do not compromise handling too much for the street. If you push them hard, they will induce a push during power on cornering.
The beauty of these bars is that you can remove them in minutes. That's no salesman's BS, even though that is what I do for a living. They are held in place by four U-bolts and can be installed with a 9/16 wrench. They are pretty simple. Ask Marcus, he's seen them.

Hey guys what are the details on June 8th? Are yall meeting up somewhere? I may be interested in bringing out my L and my R (no pun intended).
Speaking of Bakersfield will anything be going on at ButtonWillow?
By the way anybody looking for a stock 99 or 00 throttle body? I will let it go for real, real chip as I have no need for it.

Thanks, KJ, you got me pointed in the right direction and I finally figured it out. I appreciate your help.
And Mike, I know of no plans to rendezvous at Bakersfield, other than at the track. Click on the link to Famoso and you can see the schedule. Grudge races Fri. night, Test & Tune Sat. A little early too organize anything since I have no idea who wants to show, and I am not a good organizer and don't know much about the Bakersfield area. I think Marcus will definitely be there, and maybe Jay. It might be fun to meet somewhere for a bench racing session and some libation after the races Fri., and perhaps breakfast the following Morning. I expect that after Saturday's races everyone will pretty much want to get in the wind. If anyone has any feedback or suggestions I would appreciate them.

I love waking up at noon, and seeing topics like this already in full swing. I will be there with bells on(not literally). Alpha, glad to hear your truck is running stronger now. Time for you to give me another ride since I forgot.
Jay, glad you brought up the traction bars. I was curious about them myself. If you wouldn't mind, I would like to try them as well. And possibly order a set. See you guys there.
