Post Off topic: Eagle Talon???

I am looking at a used 1990 Eagle Talon AWD Turbo as a daily drive. It only has 73,000 miles and is in perfect shape inside and out. Are these cars reliable?

I had a '92 Eclipse GSX AWD Turbo. I refer to them as "valve benders". They are known for losing timing belts and tangling up the valves and pistons. They have a recall on the t-case, for the seals leaking and the possiblity of locking up when out of oil. When maintained and taken care of well, and "IF" whomever worked on them in the past knew what they were doing, they can be good cars. This is my opinion from owning one, and having my own auto-repair shop, and working on them and their DSM relatives.

Make sure they have lots of paperwork that shows the belt (and I recommend everything in the timing belt area be replaced at same time) has been replaced at 60,000 miles.

Any other questions, feel free to e-mail me at : rickauto@sierra.net

I had a 1993 Eagle Talon AWD. Make sure you check out that center differential. It had a oil leaking problem near the drive shaft yolk. I had mine fixed twice. Unfortunately, this was after mine ceased up on the highway at 60 mph. Let me tell ya, it is not a good thing to have 4 wheels lock up at 60. I think a few subsequent problems I had with the car had to do with that incident. I had the following break on the car: 1 pinion gear, 2 CV joints, 1 ceased rear brake caliper, and 1 broken water pump. Also, make SURE the car had the timing belts replaced at 50K miles. It is a bomb waiting to blow if the original timing belt is on the car.

Sorry, for the long post. I am having a bad day. My 2 month old 01 bolt is acting up and Ford has been no help.

BTW, I have a nice 93 Talon for sale. Cheap ;-p

I had that exact car, and it was my daily driver for 3.5 years. It was quite reliable, and never made it to the dealer once after delivery. It was quick and fun.
