Bad diode? It's bad enough to consider a moose or two during a trip but the greater question should be what a diode is doing in the transmission in the first place.

It is called a mechanical diode for want of a better word. It is actually an one-way valve.

But, the transmission IS controlled by microcomputer...

Incon306, the term 'diode' is an electronics part to me and I don't understand how it relates to a transmission. The reference to moose is from a previous poster who had to drive by one or two of 'em. I should have just asked what a diode was. Any ideas?

Question

SVT_01_Sparky,when you talked to the dealer did he in fact say the J-1 had a bad diode?.
I don't think even Ford would screw up this
bad,i mean how can you not see a big white
sticker that has J-1 on it.I think the boy's
from SVT should step in here and tell us what
the real deal is.My 01 runs great,BUT i don't
want to get stranded some place.

Bad enough to coinsider a moose or two? Hey man, my transmission better be bullet proof then!

BTW, temps were a balmy -45*F. Pretty sure I dont have the J1, since I have a '99.

I'd gladly trade my intercooler leak for your diode problem, any takers?

Don't worry about the diode all the 2001's have the coorect diodes, and the 99 and 2000's are not affected.

Thumbs up

Fritz,
I just check my '01 lightning tranny (Yellow tag}, and it is of the X-5 variety. On the door facing, the build date shows 4/10/01 with a trans code of 7CTC.

At 1700 miles, i have not exceeded 4500 rpm yet and the tranny shifts good so far!!

J.
