SAFETY: What do you wear when you go racing?
I'm just curious to see how seriously everyone takes their personal safety when they go racing. I use to just wear a helmet and jeans. I try to wear a long sleeve shirt or sweat-top when I can. I know some people think it's goofy to wear fireproof clothing unless you're running 7's, but I will be taking my safety more seriously from now on when I hit the track. I will be wearing my helmet (even if the track doesn't mandate it), fire-retardant racing shoes, Nomex full-length underwear (top/bottom), Nomex gloves, and Nomex socks. That should give me a moderate margin of safety without going all out on a $250 Multi-Layer Nomex suit. There's a few more things I could do to be safer, but these little things should reduce the risk some.
What stuff do you wear?

When I go racing, I am wearing the following:
-Arai GP-5 Helmet
-HANS Device 20M
-Sparco Sprint 6 Nomex Suit
-Alpinestars Nomex Gloves
-Alpinestars Nomex Shoes
-Alpinestars Nomex Underwear (socks, head sock, top and bottom).
Of course, I actually turn left...and right for that matter

Spencer, IMO you really can't be careful, I can't tell you how many test and tunes I've been to and been lined up with some ***** to the wall track monster, blasting off another 150mph pass, this is why you need good equipment, not just for you but for the other guy, your in just as much trouble if he loses it as you are- I really think that a three layer jacket and pants are cheap insurance, toss in a good set of gloves and shoes a current rated helmet to cover all your bases.
As a side note - about 4 years ago I had some surgery (knee) and was in the hospital for about two weeks, the aqua rehab at the hospital also does burn treatments (debreeding) never in my life have I been in such a sobering place so thankful only to be nursing a scoped knee back, the place was as close to medieval as one could imagine, anything to avoid that rehab is money well spent in my book.

Wear the best
How much do you make a year?Figure if you lost out on say 3 months work what would your loss be?Now figure what the safety equipment cost.Is it more than that?Your life is worth far more than $$ can buy as well as the ones who love you.YOU might be a good driver and can handle any situation but what about the guy next to you, can he?Look at it that way.Real good example of that is at Lightning Fest last year 2 VERY capable drivers one lost traction on one rear tire and look what happened! No one hurt but alot of bent sheet metal!Could of been much worse! I usually wear my helmet, jeans and a t-shirt and jacket or long sleeve shirt. I do think I will get some proper racing shoes though, was eyeing up some nice one's when we got my dad's Mach I tuned recently.
