Post Scales/weights

Well I finally was able to get down to the shop and pick up my set of scales last night. I have been promising to post accuate weights for sometime. Tonight it will happen. I will do the total weight, front, rear, and each corner as well. If time permits I will drop the spare and hitch and post that as well.

Does anyone have any special requests or needs for weight info?

I will be using a LongAcres 4 pad computerized scale system. Which I happen to have an extra set for sale at a very reasonable price if anyone is interested.

Look for the results tonight.

Could you take out the battery, mount a 6 gallon coolant resivoir instead and then mount to optima batteries in the back under the bed. HAHAHAHAHA, I'll do that one.

seriously though, take out the passenger seat, driveseat, tailgate.

how much do the lower control arms weigh? I'm thinking.

Ok here we go. I grabbed the wrong set of scales so the set used here is not the longAcres. SWII Scales by Intercomp is the setup I used.

Truck facts: 2000 Lightning, factory stock suspension and ride height. Between 1/2 and 3/4 tank of fuel. Snug_lid and 60lb bed mat in place, as is the spare and hitch. Non stock weight saving items are PSP pulley, magnaflow muffler. All fluids are full and the console and glove box are full of misc crap.

This is exactly how the truck was run on Sunday 13.16 @104. On F-1's, street program, and 92 oct.

Truck weight (by itself): 4757lbs
Right Front: 1302 lbs
Left Front: 1353 lbs
Right Rear: 1051 lbs
Left Rear: 1097 lbs

Front Only: 2656 lbs
Rear Only: 2101 lbs

Front to Rear Distribution: F=55.8% R=44.2%
Left to Right Dist: L=50.6% R=49.4%

Truck with me in the drivers seat: 4910 lbs

Right front: 1321 lbs
Left front: 1419 lbs
Right Rear: 1073 lbs
Left rear: 1097 lbs

Front Only: 2740 lbs
Rear Only: 2170 lbs

Front to Rear Dist: F=55.8% R=44.2%
Left to Right dist: L=51.2% R=48.8%

There you have it. I will post more information as i strip it down and then again when I start the suspension mods. Even dropping the rear with just shackles should help the front to rear distribution. Moving the fuel tank to the center would make a huge difference. Hopes this helps. Not bad for a truck, but not great for a race car.

Thanks thats some great info, now we have some baceline numbers to go by before we make any mods.

I have a question. I had my truck up on a lift the other day and noticed that the leaf springs seperate when lifted. I was wondering if anyone has put some rubber pads in between the leafs on the front side. I think this may preload the front of the spring thus reducing wheel spin at the track.

I am thinking of trying this in the future to see if it helps.

Looks like softer rear springs could be a big benefit for the drag racers.

DonC,
Instead of the rubbers you might want to try a pinion wedge under the spring perch. Should be able to get them from anyone selling suspesion kits.
