Post Tire survey (99-00-01)...What came with your truck?

When I got my truck, I thought the tires had a little tread missing when we bought it.

It only had 8 miles on it when I first set my eyes on it, and 64 when I recieved it 3 weeks later, but still, the tread seemed a little less than normal. I didnt think anyhting of it since the fastest car I had ever driven was a '94 Chevy Cavalier.

Anyways, I have raced a camaro SS with nittos and I kept up wiht him from the launch. Thats what got me thinking. But the 2.139 60' told me I had bad traction.

Now the guys with the '01 Lightnings say they get not only 20 hp, but gears AND a different tire.

As most of you know, I raced an '01 black CHIPPED Lightning a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty much was neck and neck,

THIS IS MY QUESTION:

My tires (99 Lightning):

Goodyear Eagle F-1 GS 295/45/ZR18

His tires (01 Lightning):
Goodyear Eagle F-1 GS 295/45/ZR18

Which ones do you have? I heard the 99 - 00 models are supposed to have just he F-1s.

Me pulling the '01 in third has me thinking something I dont want to think, but wish I could....

Tundra,

They are all the same series of tire, the difference is the 2001's got a new compound rubber that is still called the F1 GS. I just got a set from Tirerack and they do seem to be stickier. The treadwear rating on the new compound is 300 vs 320 on the older versions.

Hope this helps...

Tundra,
My 2000 was one of the first few hundred built. My tires are the Goodyear Eagle F-1 GS 295/45/ZR18.
Treadwear: 300
Traction: AA
Temperature: A

I also have a set of tires that I bought from Cruiser on the board and they are exactly the same. Not sure what Wyldman is referring to as a treadwear of 320, maybe that was the 99's?

There is a difference in tread depth between tires that came on the 2000 and the 2001, according to Ford/Goodyear. Found this out when two tires were replaced under warranty and it wigged the ABS system out - the difference in tire diameter was enough for the system to think there was wheel slippage.
