Exclamation Lightning Archives Created...

Hello All,

Upon my return from the Cayman Islands (where I saw a red Gen II with a hard tonneau and two wide white stripes on SMB that drove away before I had the chance to introduce myself), I was greeted with several nasty emails about the slowness of the message boards.

My determination was that our forums have reached the theoretical limit of the UBB software (the 3rd party software that we use for the boards). As a result, I have chosen to archive the older messages from the Lightning Forum, which is the largest forum here.

I created two new archives, Lightning (Y99) and Lighting (Y00). As you may have guessed, these are messages that were last posted to in 1999 or 2000. Hopefully, this will speed things up a bit while I look into alternative software for the boards.

Finally, I changed the Lightning Forum description to reference not only the FAQ, but the archives and the search facility as well.

Thanks Steve

It took me a while to figure out where to look, but I found them.

What you have to do is go into the search then in the forum drop down window go all the way to the bottom.

Now that I and we know where to look, I think we are all set.

Don't ditch the UBB, instead upgrade to their new version (although costly) you will not have to worry about the speed issue. You DON'T want over 10k to 20,000 posts in any forum at any given one time. There's no need to save all those posts either, honestly. This board is slow, and continuing to allow all the build up of posts is going to further slow it down. Even w/ the archives.

One of the biggest values of this forum is the collected info about these trucks. The 99 and 00 owners have contributed a great deal of info that would be lost if the posts werent saved. You mentioned that the Forum was slow. Compared to what ? Can you be sure your speed impression is not related to your connection or a router between you and Online ?

I can assure you that this will not happen anytime soon. I have followed the UBB6 release with much anticipation (and am active on the vendor's board) and as MANY owners of large UUB's can attest to, the "new" version is a step back in performance and features, not a step forward. I have a long list of legitimate reasons for this decision.

Question

Does anyone know if the Lightning Steve saw in the Cayman Islands is a member of this board? My friend just got back from there, and the first thing he told me about his trip was that he saw a red Lightning w/ two white stripes down the middle. I'm sure it was the same truck Steve saw. I could have sworn that I've seen that truck on here before. Just curious...
