Well, they(the owner and the service advisor) were busily circling every flaw with a grease pencil because a Ford rep was coming today.

To those millionaires who think this is a work truck with go-fast parts: wrong. If so, they should market it that way. And if so, it should be cheaper. The simple fact is though, IMO, is that this kind of paint would STILL be inexcusable on a V6. Is $15,000 not enough money to spend on a vehicle to get a good paint job? If they cant paint a full size truck correctly, which is akin to shooting paint at a barn, how do they manage to paint anything right at all? Also, the Navigator is just a gussed up Expy, which is just a F150 with a back seat and topper - does that make it a work truck too?

I was actually down at Bankston's bodyshop yesterday where the are doing a little paint and ahemahem*body*ahem work on my L and I saw the silver L in question. I talked to the manager about it and he told me that he sees a lot of silver f150s with paint problems. He said its something about the silver paint that just comes out with a bad paint job more often then the other colors. Take that for what its worth.

Well, I can understand some problems. Nothing is ever perfect, y'know. But, the least they could do is make sure the surface is dirt free before they paint it - and not just blob some paint on the top to cover up a mistake and make it look worse. Its looks like a bad combover.

The question is if Ford will make it right for that guy...

I have to admitt that my silver paint is pritty damn good. I do have one little flaw, just above the bed step on the drivers side I have 4 or 5 little spots. It looks like there was a flaw when they molded the side of the bed. It looks like little indentations, that they just painted over.

i have a red one, and the paint is terrific. when i wash it people stare at it like crazy, and constantly say nice truck. the paint jobs they used to do on the old corvettes were absolutely the worst. i had a 58, 64, 70,92 vette and the paint job on all of them was really poorly done. the fiberglass was always the reason i was given for the poor quality. the lightning is a million times better.

I made the dealership repaint my driver's side door multiple times first because a flaw from the factory and the other times because the dealership screwed up the repaint. In the process, I learned that Ford was having trouble with Silver because the metallic particals were "turning backwards" during the painting process.

Was up at the local dealership to pick up my truck from service for a clunk noise in the door when you use the Auto down switch for the window, and to fix the exhaust, which from the factory is too close to one side of the ground effect, and is actually buring the paint off, and I saw a silver 2001 L there - that owner is PISSED because he got the truck two weeks ago, and finally was giving it a good clean up. Well, all over the truck, there are little spots here and there that dirt or some contamination was sprayed onto the truck during painting. Not just one or two spots, but like two dozen. To top it off, in the rain channels on top of the cab, they just blobbed some silver paint in the channel, white-out style, I suppose to cover up a area they missed - it looked horrible.

I love my truck, and I wouldnt trade it for a Type-R Integra or anything, but somtimes I wonder how many of those are not even painted correctly. These kinds of issues shouldnt be present on a $30k plus niche vehicle like an SVT product.

A lot of times if the vehicle is damaged during transit to the dealer the dealer will repair/repaint and scratches or dents caused by careless transporting prior to the vehicle being put on the lot for sale or if it was special ordered, being delivered to the customer. they are not required to disclose this because the damage is usually a small dollar amount < $500.
Maybe some of these paint flaws are caused by poor repainting at the dealer prior to sale?

Ford paint has always sucked! On my 96 Cobra, there were a few spots with dirt under the paint, one spot where they buffed it too much and you could see metal through the paint. And under the hood next to the battery there was a spot in about a 6 inch circle where they didn't even get any paint. Right above the circle they hit it a little heavey and some "runs" went right through the area with no paint. It looked pretty crappy, but I wouldn't let 'em repaint it because I didn't want it to look worse.

Mine was a little like. I have to make an oppointment with the dealer. On the passenger side below the rear window, they messed up on the welding job and painted over it. I spent this much money on a truck and have a blemish like that, it's getting fixed. But I'm kinda scared to send it to the dealer, what if it gets screwed up more.

'Cobra:

I got the same crappy paint job on my 2000 silver. Most of the truck looks good, VERY good, but there are some incredibly bad-looking flaws.

There are dozens of spots on the bed and tailgate where paint was sprayed over dirt. Most are small - just little specks painted over, but there are two on the tailgate right around the latch that are big enough to be seen at some distance. The paint surface is actually broken and some sort of brown gunk is visible underneath.

The bed is badly orange-peeld, with the doors also affected, but not to such a degree. I have no drips on visible surfaces, but there are many under the hood. Not such a good job in the engine bay. I have a couple small sags in the clear coat on the tailgate, and some "feathering" on the tailgate and the bed where it looks like the amount of "metal flake" in the paint got a little "off".

The sad part is, my paint job, upon close inspection, is one of the better I've seen on a Gen2 Lightning.
