Yes! what IS the reason for the towels?

 

The towels are basically a "cheap man's" sun shield for the tires. If your truck is in the pits, and the sun is hitting one side of it,that will heat that tire more than the other and actually raise your tire pressure. Then you go make a pass with 17 psi in one tire and 22 in the other. Not good for 60fts .
