Talking Thinking of buying an L!!

I just got back from the local Ford dealer..they have a 99 Red L w/ only 8k miles on it. They are asking 27,900 for it.
Im test driving it on Wed. and I know I'm gonna want it, haha. Ive got a 97 Expedition w/ over 50k miles on..so Im probably gonna get 16-17k for trade in. I know all of you guys are gonna say go get it but I was just posting this for some advice, thoughts on my situation. Thanks....Brent

Guys..to answer your questions..I live in Martinsburg, WV which is about 70 miles from Washington DC. I just ran the L through the kelley blue book website and it comes out as retail over 29k. price may/may not be a little high but this baby is in flawless condition. Well..I will let you all know how the test drive goes on Wed. THanks for you input!

Black:

If you want to pay 29K, do it.

Negotiate to 25K(which they will). Send me the $4,000.

Thanks in advance...

Cool

Rich...your check will be in the mail, haha!
I am gonna try to talk em down on that 27,900 price that they have. If I get them down to 25 that would be pretty good. Either way...I havent even drove the L yet and I'm very confident that I really want this vehicle!!

HINT:

Negotiate the price BEFORE the test drive.

If you do it after, you'll be willing to pay the $27,900.

Seriously....

Do a search for "front end clunk," "leaky intercooler," "seat wear, "and "door cracks" and throw those terms out when negotiating. It sure as hell can't hurt to let them know that you know you'll have to get some bugs worked out to make it perfect. JMHO.

Duck:
That's why I told him to get the dealer to throw in the Extended Warranty.

Black:
Just remember, not all Lightnings have any of the problems that Duck listed. Mine has 18,000 miles and never been to the Service Department. Luck of the draw sometimes.

I don't know what area you live in but that price sounds a wee bit high. Otherwise I'd say go for it!

As much as I love my 99, 28K is more than you should pay for a stock Lightning.

I'd go 25K tops and make them throw in the extended warranty. Either way, it'll be money well spent.

IMHO, save your money for mods. and toys. You'll need it. (See list below)...

Overpriced for a 99, saw 2 new '00 on a lot in the Milwaukee area which they were selling for dealer invoice(about $26,500 range).

Dealer invoice for my 01 is $28,266, so $27,900 seems a bit high. Paid $27,684 for my 01 brand new. Helps to work for Ford
