Post Anyone have problems with the J1 tranies?

I was wondering if anyone has actually had one fail yet. I know it's a bit early to really know. Please let me know.

Cool

I have the J1 on the side, and having autocrossed the L a number of times, definately have gotten on and off the gas at higher than 4600 rpm. No problems so far.

This has been really over hyped and I guess it's my fault. The J1 s are the FIXED transmissions after the diode, the ones with the bad diode would be the 5Qs, but none of those were built, so that's a moot point. What I said (in a private conversation, not on the board) was that if you fail a J1 and are getting a new one under warranty, that you should get a 5X if you can, because the J1 was discontinued. They did a mid year model switch, which isn't that unusual (3 of the last 4 years have had them) and the 5Q is the newer model. Please don't go and start worrying about your transmission, it's fine. If you do tear it up somehow, just look to see that you get the newer model. About transmissions blowing up, I was misunderstood, which is par for the course when you talk to me at 9AM (which to me is like 4AM to most people), I was discussing a tranny in a highly modified truck, if you have a lot of mods and are putting out over 500 lbs of torque you do need to do some tranny work, or that was what I meant, anyway, God only knows what I may have said.
Anyhow, the J1s are fine, if you blow one up they'll give you a new one, and you should get a 5X because that's the new model, that's all.
hope this clears things up,

G

I would like to apologize for this whole thing. It was I who got this info from Greg and passed it along to a 2001 owner on another board who had problems similar to the ones associated with this whole thing. From that point I openly shared what I knew because people asked about it, and I just passed along info I was told, but may have misunderstood from the source (or Greg was just really tired from an overnight shift LOL). Sorry if I caused any panic or confusion.

Wheeeeeeeeewwww!! That's a relief.

Unfortuately, these interet forums can spread the wrong message very easily, whether intended or not. Thanks for the clear-up.
