Cool Who else thinks the stock stereo is CRAP?

I had the L less than a day, and I was already shopping for an aftermarket head unit and speakers. You can spend over $30 grand on a vehicle, and you still get the sorriest sound system possible. Some friends and I installed a Sony head unit and 4 new Pioneer speakers today, and the difference is UNREAL. I can now turn the stereo up without thinking I'm in a Yugo.

Agreed. How much did you spend on the speakers?

Thumbs up

I gotta agree with that too. I just bought 4 Blaupunkt 3 way speakers & am going to have my 2 competition 10`s mounted uder the rear seat. I waiting for the dynamat to get here so I can change out the door speakers. I found a place that sells the dynamat material for $12.79 for a 32" x 54" piece. A custom car audio shop is going to build & mount the box for the 2 10`s. chaging me $125 to bulid, carpet & mount the box. Can`t wait to get it done !!!

Cool

I paid $94/pr. for my speakers at Best Buy. I wasn't looking for something that would blast the windows out, so my setup is perfect for me. It's nice and clear when I crank it up.

Trevor
I agree with you the stock stereo does suck. The first thing I did was put the Alpine head unit from my 99 F150 into my Lightning.I put two sets of JL Audio coax speakers in the truck, and agree it sounds so much better.
I also mounted a 6 disk changer under the seat. If you are interested the is a pic or two of the system in my zing album.

I kept the stock head to keep the thieves away, and replaced the speakers with BA's and added a sub and an amp. To my ears and everyone I have asked the stereo sounds good.

Plus if you toss the stock head then you have to throw the CD changer too !!

Trevor - You are right, the stock system is a little sad for a $30K truck. I replaced the stock system with Eclipse gear. The head unit has a single CD player and I added the 6 disk indash changer. Went with MB Quart speaker front and back driven with an Alpine 5 channel amp. Still need to do something about the bass speakers. Running an 8" Bazooka reference series.

I think the stock stereo is pretty good considering. Its easy to use and has the 6 disk changer. I dont know how good the factory amp is or how much power it's pushing. The real problem is those crappy Sanyo speakers they used!!!

Cool

We hooked up the new head unit first before replacing the speakers, and there was a night and day difference just with that. The speakers were still fuzzy when you cranked it up, but it was A LOT better than what it sounded like w/ the stock head unit.

I read some where that the '01's have a 6 disk IN DASH player. Is that correct? It is the only time I heard of that.

It would make sense. Most of the new Lincolns comming out have the 6 disk in dash. I just looked at the Lincoln LS for my girlfriend and had it in it.

Pretty sweet.

Yes, this stereo is crap. It should be called the Ford premium distortion generator. I will definitely need to upgrade it, once I have some spending money. I would like to kep the head unit and CD changer and run a good quality amp/crossover with subs. I hope the head unit isn't so bad that a good quality amp won't clean up the sound. Speakers may have to go as well.

No, the 01s don't have in-dash changers. That would be SO NICE!!! I hate having to dig behind the seat to change discs. I really wish I had the option of putting a single disc in the head unit for those "just gotta hear this songe once to get it outta my head" moments.

I hate the fact that they used different harnesses for the premium system.

Pulled the stereo with the nice aftermarket harness out of my older 97' 150, went to put it in the lightning, and a completely different harness was there.

And yes the stock system sounds bad.

By the way, does anyone have radio stations around them that use RDS?
