Question Those with electric fans...

I was thinking of buying an electric fan (probably PSP), but I wanted to get some input from those of you who have them installed on your L's. What brand do you have, what kind of gains did you see, did you have any overheating problems, etc? PSP's runs about $300, but looks like the best set up so far. I just wanted to know if it was worth the money.

I have a PSP Electric fan and Trans Cooler w/ fan.
I CAN'T tell you the performance gain because everthing was done with other mods and at different temps.
I CAN tell you that the electric fan (loss of 20-25 lbs of rotating mass off the front of the motor-has to be worth some hp) doesn't need to be run unless the truck it sitting, it cools that good.I don't think it's $300.00 though. More like $225.00?
As far as the Trans cooler, I haven't the sluggish shifts from 1st-2nd because of the trans temp anymore.
Another MUST BUY MOD!!!

I have the JDM fan and I love the thing. I never thought that an electric fan would make that much of a difference but it did. The engine is real quiet and revs so much quicker. I also weighed the stock fan and fan clutch and it was 9 lbs. The fan itself is a Ford part (20") it looks super stealth, it's automatic and the wiring is very neat and out of the way. It really takes an eagle eye to notice it. A highly recommanded modification.

I am considering this mod also, did you guys do the install yourselves? and Also, does the fan come on automatically as it is needed or is it a manual thing that you have to turn on with a switch?

I installed a 16" Spal ($96.95) from www.racesearch.com and used a manual switch. Mounts perfectly to the radiator support and is well inside the stock shroud.

Cool

Two 13-inch SPAL fans (970 cfm each). Probably a little overdone, but what else is new.

Question

RobBlack,

How much was the JDM fan set up and do you have any picks?

Pictures of my truck are a bit smaller here I belive.

The kit was $ 395.00. The installation was time consuming but not difficult to do. My fan has a temp. sensor in the lower manifold so it kicks on and off automatically and is also wired with the A/C so I will not have any charging problems in the summer heat.
