Talking Just bought '01 L...help w/ induction and tuning

I just picked up my silver '01 L, and I already have the "modding itch". I'm looking to do a chip and induction. What are the best companies to go with? Also, is it worth messing with an aftermarket cat-back, or should I just leave the stock one?
FWIW, this truck is AWESOME. I've had to take it through quite a few corners to try it out, and it's very easy to forget that you're in a truck! If I only had more than 35 miles...

Wait until the motor "breaks in" a little, you'll see a difference

Cat-back's are good for a sound increase, if your looking for noise, go with Bassani,if not, leave the stock one on..I wish I did.

Trevor

Congrats on your new truck.

There are a few great tuners for the lightnings
These are in no particular order

Sal at Power Surge Performance
http://www.powersurgeperformance.net/index1.html

JohnyLightning
http://www.webtechnik.com/johnnylightning/

Swanson Performance
http://www.swansonperformance.com/index2.html

Jim At JDM
he doesn't have a web page but you can find him at http://www.svtperformance.com/newfrontb.htm

They are all quality tuners, if you search around you will see that many people have stuff from more than one vender. I myself have a JDM filter and chip on my truck, and have to say Jim has been great helping me out.

As far as the exhaust goes, I replaced my muffler with a MagnaFlow, but only did it because I had a vibration, that came from the exhaust at 90 mph, but the MagnaFlow muffler kicks A$$.

I hope this helps you out
Good luck with the new ride I know you will love it, trust me I do.

Cool

Congrats on you new truck. Wise choice on the color! I bought the JL ram air for mine. I was going to wait until 500 miles before doing any mods. But can't stand to wait any longer. I would highly reccomend Johnny's set up. As for a chip, that is a personal choice, but I have a surprise for mine, maybe on the 12th.

Cool

Thanks for the response guys. I looked at Swanson's site, and I saw the MAF. Is it worth going with the MAF as well? I saw his results, but I want to hear from some other guys besides the manufacturer.
I'll probably stick with the stock cat-back. It sounds good, and it's by no means overbearing.

Your truck already has the best MAF setup on it now. All you need is a chipnfilter and some break in time.

is that the answer guys? if you have an 01 you just need to add a chip and filter? is that the best bang for the buck. if you have an 01 and you just add that, will it get you into the 12's? if thats the case which is the best chip and filter for all around use. like in every day driving and just taking it easy most times?

Johnny - I sent you mail.
I just sold my '98 Trans Am ram air with a built 383, 12-bolt, etc. It had run a best of 11.38 @ 117.5 MPH naturally-aspirated, and it was a BLAST to drive. It just gets really expensive to keep a 4L60E together when you're pushing that kind of power, and I was tired of dumping money into it. I have a '67 Chevy II Nova drag car that I'm going to start racing full time again. I wanted something that was fun to drive while still being able to tow the car to the track. There's no doubt that I bought the ultimate tow truck!

Good choice in going with Johnny's products. JL got me in the 12's with just two mods, his ram air and chip.

Don't tow with a chip unless you get at least a 2 program chip and have the stock program as the one to tow with.

THNDR - What, specifically, is in the tuning that would hurt towing w/ it?
