I hesitate to post this, due to my respect for the nice looking headlights on the 01 Lightnings. It is obvious now to me that gears do not make much of a difference. I think the 01s shift from 1st to 2nd at around 43 mph, compared to my 45 mph.

Back to the fight....


In round 2, we decided to go from a 10 mph roll. Atleast thats what I thought. We actually went from about a 20, and I smartly kept it in first. I told him to punch it when we got across the intersection, but he was pretty far ahead, and I think I got a jump on him, resulting in me pulling right by him.

Round 3


Now this was a pretty good round. Both heavyweights fighting it out, to about 60 or so. Both of us landed punches at the same time, pretty much. Agian, we agreed from about a 10, but went from near a 20. at the light, however, I told my friend about keeping it in first, and then putting it in second right when I get on it. So I think thats what he did. He did say somehting about hitting the rev limiter...

This last race clearly showed me what was up. It was neck and neck for a while then I pulled a fender--1/2 a truck, to my great surprize.

Looks like thats it, for while, my rear tires are getting pretty low on tread, finally.

I did race Gregg in the Silver SS last night, agianst a 1st Gen. Lightning, I'll try to post that after work...

What's great about this matchup is that I'm sure you will be having a lot of rematches as the miles accumulate on the 01 to see if it gets better or not. I can't belive any chipped L would run pretty much even with you. I can't figure that one out. This is great for you to have another L to chum with; maybe now you will mod I took my 01 to Milan dragway and did a 14.0 with only a K&N and that rubber thingy removed from between the airbox and fenderwell. I didn't cooldown; took it right to the staging lane after getting off the freeway. My 00 that I traded did a 14.0 totally cold with the Downs kit; I'd say my 01 is quicker by about 1 to 2 tenths. Judging from some of the other 01 owners getting 13.9 to 13.5's stock, I'm starting to think I may have a mediocre L. It may be a tight motor, though. Only have 1K on it.

Maybe you could get the guy to pull his chip and run you. I'd REALLY be interested in that!

Yes, I am looking forward to it. The track up here opens up on May 13th, and after that, I think I'll be keeping most of my action there.

There should be atleast 2 other Lightnings at the track this year. Aksilver2k, and my friend in the 01.

It should be good competition, gonna be a lot of mad F-body/C5 owners.

 

Looks like the old dog had a few tricks left. Good job Tundra. Sounds like you've got an interesting summer coming up. Keep us posted.
