Post 2001 track time

at the civil war drag race at rockingham a brand new lightning ran 13.90 at 98 mph. my 99 with about the same miles and weather conditions ran 13.95 at 100 mph.just thought i would pass the imfo along so you could compare the two.

hi GP

I ran my new 2001 the other night. I wanted to compare it with the chip and without the chip.

With no chip I ran 13.851 at 100.52mph with a 60 foot of 2.185

With the chip I ran 13.858 at 102.93 with a slower 60 foot time of 2.278 I had a hard time getting traction off the line on that pass, but still picked up 3 mph with the chip. If I could have gotten good tracktion maybee I could have gotten more.

Both of these runs were made with the overdrive in the on position, next weekend I will try it in the off position, I hear with the 2001's your et and mph will be better with the overdrive in the off position.

The chip I had Jim burn for me is his most conservitive chip, I asked him to do it that way. I wanted it mostly for driving on the street.

Also it was the first time I have ever ran a 1/4 mile so I am still learning how to launch this baby

I don't see how having the overdrive on or off will make a difference. Is your truck shifting into overdrive before the traps? Just curious.

That's my thought as well. Having the OD on or off shouldn't make a difference unless the truck was shifting into 4th down the track. I can't see that happening.

It was hard to tell when it shifted into 4th, but it felt like it shifted into 4th close to the finnish line, thats why I want to try it next weekend with the overdrive in the off position. This way I will know for sure, I wasn't really watching the guages while I was running down the track. Things happen quick on the track, and I just want to eliminate the possibility of it shifting into 4th.

Also like I said wednesday was the first time I ever ran a 1/4 mile, and those 13-14 seconds felt like it only took 5 seconds, I can see how it can become addicting.

It hits 3rd just before the traps, not O/D. Besides, it doesn't just shift arbitrarily when at WOT, it shifts at maximum RPM shift points.

I have read somewhere around here that the 01' trucks are faster with OD off. I don't know if its because of the 3.73 gears or if it is just programmed to shift sooner.
I have 4.10 gears in my 00' and I have to turn the OD off or it will shift before the lights and it will bog and slow the truck down. Dale
