Talking Thanks JL for getting me into the 12’s

I ran a personal best for my 01 yesterday at Cecil 12.954 @ 105.33 with a 1.911 60’
I would like to thank all who helped make the Super Stallion event at Cecil a great event!
Met a lot of great Lightning and Mustang owners and got to see Spiro’s awesome 11 second run I met Johnny Lightning for the first time, what a great guy! He installed his power cooler on my truck which is what I believe gave me most of the extra 4.5 tenths to dip into the 12’s. My previous best run, two weeks ago was a 13.41 @ 102 with the same mods minus the power cooler. I also had MT et’s BUT on my best run was only able to pick up .08 and most runs were almost identical to the stock tires I agree with Brian K on the MT’s it sure is fun to roast them and not see $$ going up in smoke Johnny enjoyed talking with your Dad and Sue – you have a very nice family!!!

We hardly had a chance to meet, but your truck was flyin' Congrats She looked real good, and was really impressive. Just wait until you "loosen up" the motor a little, she'll get quicker

Super Stallions had another great event. They will have a 3 page color article in a future MM&FF issuse, I look forward to it.

Great event, great people

George and Harvey froom NJ both running in the mid 12's even made the trip down to DE to have a little dinner with me, Sal,GALAXYENG,94 Cobra...and of course some good beer at casa GALAXYENG

I am not having any luck with my new MT either. I am having wheel spin. I can't believe it. The guys at the speed shop promised, "how much money have I spent with that one", I could not spin the slicks with my Cal-trac but I am. My 60' times were 1.8 with the F1's and now are 2.02 with the slicks and 1,200 rpm starts. How in the world are you guys running with torque converters?
Just whinning about my lack of skill.
Alvin

Oh, good job with the 12's Totaled!

1st. You start with getting all the mustard off the truck.
2nd you must heat up those tires to the point of goo.
3rd. Cal-Tracs alone aren't going to get any bite if they aren't pre-loaded.
4th. MT ET's should be at 17-18 psi cold before heating them up.
5th. Make sure you are not lineing up where some goof just ran with a set of street tires. He will leave you a mess of tire dust to run through.
6th. Be sure you are getting all the water off the tires and not dripping down off inner fenders after rolling through the water.
If this doesn't work, come back to Texas and we will show you how to leave with a 100 shot of nos and pull 1.6 60fts

Thumbs up

A JL Powercooler is made by Johnny Lightning Performance. http://www.johnnylightningperf.com

The cooler hooks inline with your intercooler resorvoir and drops the temperature by about 80 degrees. Definitely a worthwhile power adder. I'm actually installing mine tonight.

Cool

JL,
I will be hanging out at the mail box

I really roasted my MT's - 15 seconds each time the first 2 or 3 runs and never got below 1.9, my pressure's were 17 and I launched at 1200-1300. It doesn't feel like it is spinning off the line but I suppose it must be I wanted to try launching at 2000 and see if that would work but all the guys that really know there stuff advised me against it.

Hey 1badtk,
I will hit the track again this friday and try again. If I fail I will have to come over for some help. But you will have to be willing to be seen in public with that damn striped truck.
I have to say that I have asked a lot of people about this have not had a clear ans. Yes the cal-tracs are preloaded. I don't know how I can spin those slicks when you guys are running so much better 60' times. i may be picking up water, I will be more careful this time.
Thanks for the help! If I can't go fast, I can at least look fast. They call me hotdog on the other web page

Unhappy

I've had the same problems. I feel the truck is down on power when I run the ET's. I ran 3-13.3's at 103 and a 13.2 at 103 on radials one weekend with 2.0 60 ft times. Two weeks later I went back with my ET's and some humidity to go along, and the best I could muster out of 4 runs was a 13.6 at 99. All runs had 2.0 60 ft's. The following week I went back again with the ET's and busted off my slowest run ever of 13.8 at 98. I decided off they go and the radials went back on. After that I got faster and faster and left with a 13.4 at almost 103 again(still humid). The next week I decided radials only and in 100% humidity I ran 13.5's all night all with 2.0 60 ft's. The truck just feels slower to me through the entire run with the ET's. Go figure?

What size MT's are you running, 26's? Remeber the stock tires are 28.4" tall. 2.4" is a huge difference. Doesn't MT make a 28"?

Twinturbo Ranger,

I know you're much smarter than that! You've been doing this for a long time so I know you don't believe what you're saying. Who’s been telling you that tire can make the engine produce more horsepower. Tires are just a traction device. Your timeline may be true, but there must be some other explanation as to why you MPH was down that you might have overlooked. The MT's change your effective gear ratio, so maybe a program change is in order to account for this difference at the track. So what's the root cause?
