Post 300ZX Info Please

A guy I know has a 91/92 300ZX Twin Turbo Auto. Stock except for catback and upped the boost to 16. Anyhow top end it flys.Track times at 5000 feet 60 feet 2.6 ouch 1/4 14.2 @ 106mph. Any ideas how much hp his setup would produce? Stock I think they run 9 boost producing around 300hp. Nice car.

He will not have that engine long at 16 pounds of boost. Is he using a boost controller?? I am now in the process of building a second engine for my twin turbo and have learned a lot about Z's in the last 6 years. I am dissapointed to read that his Z only did 14.2 in 1/4 with 16 pounds of boost. Does he have an aftermarket boost gauge??

2KSVT150GP,
He does have a boost conroller. I think he has a gauge. His tyres a pretty shot hence the 2.6 60 time. Did you notice this is at 5000 feet? So I guess that would be more like 13.2 at sea level. Then with good tyres mid 12s? What kind of boost would you say is safe for a stock Z? Also any good links? I would like to learn more about these cars. I checked out the engine. Man talk about a tight fit. By the way what hp would you think? Maybe 400.Thanks for the info.

I had a 1990 300ZX Twin Turbo about 4 years ago. Had a boost controller, down pipe, straight pipe,Greddy cat back exhaust, and a K+N filter. Ran a 13.4 @ 104 mph,and 330 RWHP. The problem with those cars is bad traction it fish tails alot.

The automatic in those is not great for performance either.

Here is the poop on the 300zx, stock it will run 13.8~14.0 easy. Even more so if it is an automatic trans versus manual. Automatics are easier to get off the line than manuals. The stock Z makes 300 hp, when you add a chip it adds about 60 hp. Then add exhaust and filter for an extra 36 hp. Stock boost is about 8.0~8.5 controlled.
The boost controller should not be added without the exhaust and filter, because the engine needs to breath and get rid of the air.
Your friends Z is at about 350~365 hp with just a boost controller during its peak 3000~5000 rpm. If his tires are shot with no tread these would be better than new tires at the track. The best links for performance parts are: www.jimwolftechnology.com and www.stillen.com
I would be happy to advise on any products or accessories available for 90~96 300ZX, but it would be better to email me:
