Post Splitfires Breaking?

I just bought 8 of the SF10B splitfires to install, but after reading all the posts on the splitfires and the recent posts involving plug failure, I am not sure what to do. I'm only running, and will be only running, A JL RAM air and a chip.

Any help would be greatly apriciated.

My opinion is out there. I went back to the stock plugs, and wish I had never wasted my time and money.

Holeshot,

I'm pretty confident you need to run the SF10D Splitfire plugs. So, don't install the B's

I have to agree with Doug on this one also,i have had the ngk's in twice and not impressed at all with them each time i had some detonation with them but not with the plugs i had in before i changed them and the splits i did notice better throttle response with them but they are not as strong a plug as the others under any kind of lean issue which we all can incurr at times with changing weather conditions and bad gas also! I am leaving my stock plugs in my new 01 when it comes in because i have never had a problem with them.About the only time anyone does have a problem with plugs is because of a lean issue in my opinion and some plugs hold up better than others when this occurs!

Platinum plugs are known for falling apart on a supercharged motor, that's probably the main reason people decide to do the plug swap.
I personally have run only NGK's in my truck. I am on my third set, and all performed just like I planned, so I see no reason to doubt all the L's running the NGK's, seems to work for many, I would give them a try before the splitfires...IMO

For the next couple thousand miles any issues with the stock plugs are Fords problem.

As fragile as the splits are is the service writer likely to cover a new valve train due to plug failure with non Ford plugs ??

Thumbs up

Pulled one of my stock plugs (25K miles on them, R9, Pro-M and leaky IC) this weekend and they looked great. I can't see spending 2+ hours to change them out. Just my 2 cents.

Cool

Get the SF10D's at Walmart. There is a $1.00 a plug rebate on Splitfires website. Do several WOT blast and park it to cool. When cool take the front passenger side plug out (easiest to get to). Your plugs should look like this.
http://www.svtperformance.com/ubb/Fo...ML/000145.html

If they are too bright blue on top and really white between the forks you are too lean for Splits. I had Jim richen mine up (2 points). It seems they like more fuel. I'll let you know when I go to the track but it feels stronger.

Do you see the tan color at the bottom of the ground electrode? The whole ground electrode will turn this color under normal driving.

I put in the SF10D's and love em, recently checked them after installing my superchip and they look fine.

If your plugs melt/break, its because you have let them live in a pre-ignition world! Send those chips back and have them reburned! End of story!

My two cents

Doug,

Thats what is happening to the plugs! You just keep the stock plugs in there, do a few mods and wait for the noise/leaves, or what ever you want to call it and see what happens to your stock plugs. Have you done any mods to your motor? By the way, oh never mind. Relax. Never said I was a know it all! Your a trip.

Herb,

My earlier comment was a little over the top and I apologise.
I ran the stock plugs under the same conditions for 13,000 miles with no issues. The Splits broke or were broken by detonation in under 2000 miles. You are right that the chip needs to be reburned but the plugs played a role in the problem as well. Ironically with the new stock plugs and 2 new coil packs my old R9 superchip doesnt ping on tip in anymore...
Can we have a group hug ? <grin>
