I would fiberglass the back side and use Bondo on the outside and finish it out with spot putty.

Put a piece of strong tape on the backside.
Use some clear epoxy to slowly fill the hole. Don't use too much. Just let it fill the hole.
Should harden clear.

I'll let the "you have a hole and you need our input" go right past. There's a first for everything....

Still have a problem. Since the hole is on the top of the hood, how do I put tape on the backside of it? It's at the front where the underneath part of the hood blocks me from being able to put tape on the topside hole. Any more suggestions? Thanks.

Seriously. You might want to take it to a body shop.

BTW, how the hell did you get a hole in your hood, anyway?

Cool

HI!... Remember that the "97" - "2001" F-150's have an aluminum hood, so make sure what ever compound you use to fill it, is compatable with aluminum.

Thanks Neal, I'll keep that in mind!

TampaSVT, the body shop is no place I can afford to go. Heck, it's only a 97 4.2L regular cab bottom of the line truck. The body shop will charge more than it's worth, lol. I just might keep it as a "speed hole."

On a more serious note, the hole is my fault. Let's just say that me + power tools + something easily damaged are not a good mix.

Thanks again. Nater.

Brooks, how long have you been waiting to let that one go? Decided to pick on the v6 I see. =)

I thought that would be a good subject Silver SCrew, gets people wondering and makes them check out what's going on. I doubt something like "how do I fix a hole in my hood" would get much response.

Nater.

Cool

Sorry. Y'all 've got to excuse Nater. He's a little slow. Actually, he's REAL slow...he's only got a 4.2L!

Nater-
At lest when you take that bug shield off people won't realize that you're a moron and drilled through your hood while trying to install it. They'll just think it was a random act of vandalism (or something).

Brooks, rumor has it that you might have an extra finger lying around that you're not too "attached" to. Maybe I can use it to plug up the hole in my hood.

This site might have what you need. They specialize in hood vents. You could pick up a vent or set of vents that would cover the hole and look intentional.

http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/rgm/pa...i01uv___01.htm

I was contemplating one of these after I installed an electric fan, because at idle hot air from the engine compartment will actually travel out through the radiator and raise the engine temperature.
