Wink Intercooler fixed!

Well, not exactly, but someone on another thread suggested that I try adding a small can of Bars Leak to the i.c. reservoir. I mentioned this to the guy who is going to rebuild my tranny, and he said he had something better, and gave me a can of BG cooling system sealant. I was a little sceptical because my i.c. was leaking like Niagara, the whole reservoir empty in 50 miles, but I added the can and in the next 50 miles the fluid level has hardly gone down at all. Should be no problem at all waiting for the real "fix".

I thought that I had read somewhere that the downside to that was sucking some of the sealer into your engine which would be slightly ungood.

My grandfather worked on the line for ford for over 43 years, many of them on the truck radiator line. (He retired in 1972! He saw a big change in cars in that time). He always said that if you want to stop a slow leak you should use pepper! You know what? It works! It might be safer than the bars leaks.

Hey George, does this mean you're coming to the Hooters Meet next Sunday? And the Ford meet this Sunday? And possibly LACR next Sunday morning to afternoon??

'fraid not, Marcus, as far as I know BG is not going to fix my transmission. Waiting on parts for that.

I've heard that too. Supposedly, it swells up when it gets wet. And I can't imagine it hurting the internals if it did pass through. Thanks for refreshing my memory. Might need that temporary fix some day.

Cool

Plus you'll be hungry again in an hour.

But I want to know, is that black, white, or red pepper, coarse, medium, or table grind?

George,
Seriously, I have used plain ol' table pepper more times than I care to admit! It does work on small leaks. The way I was told is that it won't disolve and will find the leak and seal it up! I would do that before I would try the bars leaks. Mine isn't that bad yet. I too am hanging on for "Intercooler v2.0"
Oh! You don't have to taste before you season!

Thanks, Tom, but I already added the BG and it seems to be doing the job fine. I wouldn't have tried it except my mechanic assured me that it would not hurt the motor, and considering how diluted it is in the first place when you add an 8 oz. can to the whole system, and how little has leaked since then, it is evident that no more than a miniscult amount could have gotten into the motor. Probably a lot less damaging than quarts of water pumping through it. Hell, who needs a new intercooler now?

If that is fix, then why not use pasta or rice? They are cheaper.

I guess if you use rice, then you would truly be a "ricer".

LOL guys, I knew there'd be a comment of some kind - I just agreed with blue blood that I had heard about pepper too. Not that I have tried it, but I bet it would work.

It's pretty sad that we have to resort to this kind of thinking with a $30k ride. Jeez, it's unbelievable actually.

I believe JL had a leak some time ago and the Bars Leaks stuff has done the trick for him for several thousand miles.

George,

Where can the BG sealant be purchased?

Hmm mine's not leaking (yet), but it sure would be cool to stave the leak off with this BG stuff...I'm going to go look for it...
