Hi all! I'm new to the board. I've always been a GM guy but I hope you'll welcome me anyway. I'm really wanting a new L. I know I have to go to a SVT dealer but isn't production limited to 4000 per year. It is already pretty late in the model year and I know orders are typically not accepted after spring. I guess what I'm trying to say is can I find one? Will the dealer do a computer search for me like a regular car or are they only allowed X amount per dealer? Thanks in advance for all replys.

 

Well I can tell you that there still some sitting on the lot where ford ships them to our area, so I would get on the phone and start calling up ever SVT dealer in our area and ask them for a lighting. I can see two red ones, one silver, and one black one right out my window and if they where ordered they most likely would have been shipped already. Also in there was 7500 2001's to be produced. close to 5000 in 2000 and only 4000 in 99.

I think the dealer by my house in orland park has one black 2001 left.

As mentioned earlier, you have to contact an Ford SVT dealer. Not just any Ford Dealer.
There are about 600 SVT dealers nationwide.

You can probably do a computer search yourself. There are different services that do that. I think Edmunds does. Do a search.
You can put out a bid for any dealer with a radius of miles that you pick. Might save yourself a heap of money.

By the way, the Dealership near me has three 2001s. One each black, white and silver. Black has been on the lot going on two months.

 

With gasoline prices going through the roof I think Ford is finding it more difficult to sell 10 mpg vehicles than they hoped for. From what I read there are plenty of unsold '01 L's sitting on lots around the country. Some judicious internet searching might yield a good price on one.

Lightning production dates don't follow standard F150 production dates. For 2001, Lightnings weren't found at dealers till late February of this year and 2000's were still being delivered to dealers in December 2000! Like many people have indicated, check around and you will find some. Also, for 2001, production of Lightnings may reach 7500 units...

 

Last I looked there are atleast 10 Lightnings on dealer's lots in the St Louis area. And the deal I went to (www.gotobo.com) did mine on the X-plan last week =)
