Unhappy Problems with an 01 motor in a 99

I need alittle help here. I have an 01 motor in my 99. I have the lower intake manifold and blower. I have Sal's street chip/Pro-M/ Sal's lower pulley. I have ping at tip in. Also at WFO. I put the stock Mass air back on (80mm) and it still pings (slight) I was thinking about trying the Pro-M Remote Optimizer. It connects in-line with the mass air meter. It has adjustments for air flow, for rich/lean by turning the idle/high flow *****. Also, I have had Sal to re-program the chip twice now, and it still pings. What do you think I should do? I don't want to run race gas, or a mix. I just want yo drive up to the pump and go.

Optimizer can not be run full time, only for calabration of MAF. If you do add a octane boost does it stop the ping?

Herb, when you put the stock MAF back on, did it still ping at WOT or just on tip in? Sounds like you may need a little more fuel. The 01 intake may require some additional tip in fuel adder on the 99-00 calibration due to it's different airflow. We can take care of it for you, I just need some more info on when it does it. You can E-mail me if you like.

Herb, You had no pinging issues at Dyno day a few weeks ago but it looks like you added a pulley since then. Could this be the problem? Good Luck!

Herb's workin right now so I'll go ahead and jump in. I rode in the truck last night and when it is cool it does'nt seem to have a ping problem, also the ping isn't severe but he does'nt want any at all. Also Jeff you are right, this little problem didn't start until the pulley went on, and I can tell you right now he isn't about to take the pulley off :-). He ordered a cooler (160) thermostat for it, just because it does run better when its cool (less ping).
Also I only rode in the truck when it had the stock MAF on it so I can't comment on what is happening when he bolts on the PRO-M.

I think the problem with Herbs combo is the Pro-M, the one he has is very aggresive for lack of a better term and it would have to be put on a dyno and a chip made for it to cure the problem. Herb is dropping the Pro-M and going with the 90mm MAF and a new street Performance program from Sal.
I havent had any detonation problems with my truck, but I run a 50/50 mix of 100/92 most of the time cause I don't drive it that much and I always like it runnin good if you know what I mean :-).
I had long tubes and a full exhaust put on by a small local performance shop today. Haven't got to much time on it yet,but I can tell it runs better and sounds much better.

Hi Jeff
One more thing, I didnt make this very clear in my last post. I run a RACE program almost all the time, that is why the mixed fuel. If a run on the street perf. setting there is no detonation with the pulley, but for now I am also running a stock MAF. But that could change at any moment :-).

Wink

Sal,

THANKS for the help!
Myself or Dale will let you know what he comes up with, far as numbers go on the long tubes. I talked to Dale over the phone last night and he sounds pumped about the tubes.

Herb ;-)
