Lightbulb Pro Sport Lid LED Wiring - DIY

Everyone,

Here are some comments and pics of how I wired the pro-sport lid into the factory 3rd brake light:

1) With the lid on and open, go to the front drivers side where the pro-sport wires come out of the lid. Remove the rubber seal from the lid where the wire passes underneath. Just peel it back an inch or two.

2) Using a sharp razor, cut a slice in the lid carpet to allow the wires to pull back. You want to pull back just enough to drop them right in the corner of the front of the bed.

When you have it where you want it, use some spray on carpet glue to glue the factory carpet and seal back in place. Close the lid with the glue wet in order to get a good seal on the seal.

3) I used some male & female bullet connectors to connect my extension wires (14 gauge)to the pro-sport wires. God forbid they actually give you 5-10' of wire with the lid.

*NOTE: The brown wire =Pos, Yel=Gnd

4) Now just run the wire from the front to the rear of the bed. If you have a bedrug, tuck it underneath. If not, use some silicone (Pam Anderson brand) to "glue" it to the underside of the bed rail area. It will be out of sight now. Using Silicone, you can just peel it off if needed, without removing paint.

5) Locate the little hole that is near the rear lock plate that you installed with the pro-sport. Look here:

The 2 14 gauge wires that you extended the pro-sport wiring with fit perfectly in that hole. Right now, just put about 1-2" in the hole.

6) Remove the rear driver taillight(2 screws) and stick your arm into the upper hole. This will allow you to grab the wires you are feeding in the hole in the bed. Pull about 8" through. Just enough slack to allow you to splice in to things.

Look at the top light in your tailight assembly(At least on my 99). The factory connectors has 3 leads attached. The 2 outside wires are Ground (Black) and Major.

Splice in your 2 wires from the pro sport lid. I used some simple crimp on splice blocks.

Put everything back together and you are ready to roll. The pro-sport cover will just come on with your brake lights.

Later,

Cool

Iam looking at the flyer from Innovation Industries right now trying to justify the $899.00 plus $200.00 shipping to the house. Looks good on paper, hows the paint match. Any body buy a silver one?

Thanks Brian!!!!

Great pics and narrative! That's why I love this forum. Everyone lends a helping hand to comrads in need. Can anyone tell me how to get better times? other that buying a G-Tech .... just kidding.

Fast Gator, I got mine for $850 by telling them that we were trying to put a Group Purchase together on the forum. I talked to Jerry at Innovation and he offered up the price. Tell him you talked to Dave Underhill (Undy) about it and I see no reason why he wouldn't offer the same deal to you or anyone else on the forum for that matter. The paint match is perfect. It's at least as good of finish quality as the truck, if not a little better.
Make sure you open the crate/box and inspect it completely before you sign for it. I get more compliments about the lid than I do the truck....LOL! It really sets it off!!!
