Blown Motor
Well, not exactly, but in my running at Big Bend I went lean at 150,thought I blew the hd gaskets but they are intact. What I did was stretch 5 of the intake valves so they would not close on the seat.So now I have to replace them.OH well thats racing!!!!
PS can we say extrude hone and bigger valves or maybe new hds? Then extrude hone.Stan

Stan,
Good to see your back in Ark. or somewhere. Tell us about Buttonwillow! I saw your pics on SpikeEngineering's web-site. When are you going back to Hallett? I have the video setup, etc. for the run.
Yes, explain about your intake valves being stretched! Sounds like Rogers, Ark. is the Area 51 for Lightnings!
Take care, Stan and keep it between the ditches!

Cracked a valve spring? Maybe you ought to check out http://www.Coatesengine.com/ for a new set of heads. Only $15k. But they are worth it...

The only way that I know of or can think of is that when the valve is red hot and with 10+ psi of boost on the back side on a valve almost 2" in dia.You have a 20# force trying to open the valve so it is like pulling on a hot piece of steel. When I build blower motors I have to take into account the valve size and boost to work up spring psi. That is the only way I can figure it did it.Stan
Stan,
It sounds like it's time for titanium valves. Handle the heat and pressure much better. The light weight is an added bonus.

Ruslow, what kind of RPM were you pulling? We had the same problem at Boneville one year. The valve springs weren't strong enough and allowed the valves to float. This kept the valves bouncing instead of seating properly. They couldn't transfer heat out to the seat and subsequently would "tulip". Let me guess, was it the intakes?
