idler pulley question...

Hey guys... maybe you can give me an answer...

I took my '03 lightning into the dealer today to have a idler pulley and bolt replaced because it literally fell off. Crazy thing is this same dealership put it on 1000 miles ago, along with an new serpentine belt and the other idler pulley. Anyway, when I picked the truck up and drove out of the dealership the check engine light went on. I took it back and they "reset" it. I got back in the truck, pulled out and the light came on again...Ugh. So I called and they said bring it back in the morning which I'm doing. So as I drove home I noticed when I would hit the gas from a stop, it would hesitate and just for a second seem as if it was stalling out, or if the idle was set too low, then I also noticed the truck shifted much harder between first and second and then from second to third....the different shifting was kinda cool, but what would make it be different?? I guess my question is: When installing a new idler pulley could it affect the idle the responsiveness of the truck and the shift patterns of the transmission? - I don't think so, but I'm just trying to get some input before I go back to the dealer tomorrow morning, I really don't have any confidence that they know what the heck they are doing right now...

Thank you!

I don't know why they would have touched them, but maybee they knocked a vacuum line loose, or forgot to reconect a vacuum line.

Start with the two hoses that plug in under the rubber intake boot, and check any other ones you can see.

Wow Don, Thank you! I didn't notice any vacuum lines loose, but the sensor that hooks up to my air intact was off ... I hooked it back up and the responsiveness and shifting is back to normal now. The check engine light is still on though - do you think NOW it needs to be reset or is it still something else?? - Can I "reset" it or do I still need to take it back?

Thanks Again...

I think if you pull the negative terminal off your battery for a few minutes it should clear the code (I would give it at least 5). Then reinstall the negative terminal and start'er up. Should be good to go.
