I know but their heavy cars. Come on four doors! I beat a R/T 345hp 5.7 hemi vs my little 4.6 gt 1998 auto with only 3:73 and a tune and exhaust. I believe it was pushing like 210 at the wheel! LOL
About 6 Months ago, I had one riding me on I75 with my 96 modded Cobra and when I dropped down and hit it , he came up my *** like he was shot at of a cannon. I tried again dropping down to third and it was almost as bad. Needless to say I was shocked.Very impressive on the highway!
An SRT8 will beat you in the quarter mile, and then start really killing you. They have 30 MPH over a Lightning's top speed.
BTW, a catback on a 6.1 Hemi does no more than on a Lightning, i.e., nothing.

sRT-8's are no joke, i had some old guy in a srt magnum pull away from me with ease on the top end. Plus i had some guy in a silver awd magnum rape me in the 1/8th. Come to find out, that guy had the works done to that thing. Full exhaust, cams, P&P heads, and thats what he admitted too. My truck at the time had just mac cold air/sbtb. Ill be ready for him now.

Superchargers and engine tuning are just now coming online for the 6.1s (the ECUs are encrypted). It's WAY easier to make power with a Lightning. The only advantage the Hemi has is bone stock. After that, dollar for dollar, a Lightning will win hands down.
Exactly as Tim said
1/2 the reason I sold my SRT8 Super Jeep was because no one had broken that encrypted crap "yet", you were so limited on what you could do...
BUT MAKE NO MISTAKES that 6.1 SRT8 motor is simply amazing in it's stock form, here's the specs on my old Super Jeep. It's a true Hi Performance Big Block that'll pull to 7000 - 7500 RPM
SPEC'S
*6.1-Liter, (370 cu in) HEMI,
*10.3:1 Compression
*420 bhp @ 6200 rpm
*420 lb.-ft. @ 4800 rpm
*Reinforced engine block
*Forged Steel Crankshaft
*High-Strength Powdered-Metal Connecting Rods
*Floating-Pin Pistons (Cooled by Oil Squirters)
*Oil pan modified to manage oil return to the pan sump at high engine speeds
*New Higher-Flow Cylinder Heads, Reshaped Ports for Maximized Air Flow
*Larger-Diameter valves, intake and exhaust valve stems are hollow
*Exhaust valve stems are filled with sodium to help dissipate heat more efficiently
*A Specially Designed Intake Manifold and Fresh-Air Induction System
*The Intake manifold was designed with Larger-Diameter and Shorter Runners for Higher-Speed Tuning
*Performance-Oriented Camshaft, Peak Power Output to 6,000 RPM
*Headers with individual tubes encased in a Stainless Steel Shell
*Dual Exhaust is 2.75-inch with 4-inch chrome tips
*A special upgraded Torque Converter, Electronically Modulated Torque Converter Clutch
*W5A580 5-speed Automatic Transmission. Adaptive Electronic Control
*Performance Tuned AutoStick “Driver-Interactive Manual Control”
*Upgraded Dana 44 Rear Differential (3.73) (with a larger ring gear and new axle housing)
*Electronic Full-Time 4WD System
Their short coming has always been the lack of tuning and mods thats available, and for the few that do offer it (hennessey), they are charging insane prices for mods.

So the 6.1 makes substantially more HP, spins nearly 1,500 RPMs higher (RPMs are the real stress on rods), and the folklore remains that the 5.4's rods are crap.
BTW, Rob, ProCharger (my client) is just coming out with its 5.7 Hemi supercharger kits. The Charger is out, and the 300C and Magnum kits won't be far behind. Complete bolt-on solution that bypasses the ECU limitations by adding a second fuel rail with 8 more injectors. SRT-8 versions are up next.
How does 650 HP for $7,000 sound? That's actually price competitive with Lightning mods.

Really? I ran an SRT Magnum on the freeway one time and slowly pulled by him up to 130+. This was with my buddy and a bed full of suspension parts (TVS). It was an older guy, he gave us a thumbs up as we pulled by him. But I'm not stock.
For most of us, SRT's aren't a problem if you have the usual mods. i.e. pulley, tune, etc.
